Description

First off...THIS WAS BUILT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. It was constantly upgraded, with the most recent upgrade being the CPU cooler and the case. It is my first build and I believe I'm finished messing around with it.

This is for gaming mostly. I also do other tasks like video editing and just everyday computer using and web browsing.

FOR 3DMARK SCORING: I didn't pay for my version, so I'm going to do the Firestrike as Extreme, skydiver as Performance, and Cloudgate for entry.

For games, I mostly play Runescape and Planetside 2. Yet, as you can imagine, Runescape was not the reason I put a 290X in here. I am aware my 6350 may be bottle-necking the GPU, but again, I upgraded the GPU long after the computer was actually built. Being a working progress...I learned a lot. It's finished now and should last me a while. Basically until I get enough money and feel like upgrading to a 8 core+ intel build with an overclocking grade motherboard much better than my current.

Still...this computer is a heck of a lot faster than anything I found at BestBuy lolz. I'll never buy a pre-built system again...I can say that even after this oddity. :)

NOTE: My CPU performance improved after placing a fan on my mobo's VRMs. I noticed while playing Planetside my fps would drop to like 15 in a heavy battle. After placing the fan there, It only drops to 25 min. still bad but much better all around. I've got a fan on my northbridge as well...just for the heck of it I guess. If it doesn't need to be there let me know.

Here's some of the changes made from it's first rendition. CPU cooler from Hyper TX3 to H105 Case from Sentey Cobra Plus 6010 to Fractal Design Define R5 :) GPU from 7770 ghz to 290X Lightning lol PSU from CX500M to EVGA 750 G. the Corsair's are great, just needed more power and got great deal on the EVGA.

lol, now its time to upgrade your desk. that pc looks like it barely fits on there. other than that, nice build. the gpu looks like a triple slot even though it isnt. also is that a case fan just sitting on top of your GPU? how's it mounted?

uhhh....yeah. I've got a twist tie hoding upright. pretty lame. I bought a small 60MM fan to actually put on the NB heatsink. Should be here soon. As for the desk, my sister's bf is getting rid of his old computer desk. He also had a 2 monitor setup with it and it's not in too bad of shape so that's hopeful haha

Yeah I thought about that. I was then convinced to just wait for Broadwell K or Skylake and get a new mobo also...we'll see. Right now I'm low on funds and about to go into semester 2 of freshman year at college. maybe this summer if the 8350 comes down insanely in price I'll get one :)

Planetside 2 Gamer? Planetside 2 is much better for intel CPUs, and Nvida cards. Great build though! Love the case.

Damn! That looks amazing! :] I want that case! btw. specs says you can fit 2x140mm fans in the front, would you reckon there is enough space for these or would it be better to go with 2x120mm? Cheers!

Ahh if it says it supports the 2x 140, the 140 would be much better. I know the top looks sortof funny with my 120 and a bunch of extra space haha. i just measured too the fan filter opening in the front seems it would support it. However, some people online say the 2x120 would be better since there are few 140mm fans that do well on radiators...IDK if this is true. Jayztwocents' beuild Skunkworks V3 is using all 120mm rads and he's got like 3 rads in his build where price isn't an issue so maybe the 120 does better. STILL, the article I read about this was from 2010 and I'm sure there's some great Static pressure 140mm fans, like the Corsair SP 140s those are some nice ones. Good luck and happy building!

UPDATE: This build now is using a Gagabyte 990FX Rev 5 motherboard I got on ebay for $50 and has 12gb of RAM. With the beefier mobo I removed those janky fans that were sitting on my GPU and VRMs and it looks much better. Replaced the LEDs with Cold Cathode lights for a more even, warmer lighting.

I WILL BE upgrading this build to a Ryzen 5 1600X with an MSI X370 Carbon Pro with 16GB of 3000Mhz RAM within the next 2 weeks! Super excited that i'll keep my H105; can't wait to see if I can manage 4.00Ghz with that cooler.

yeah I replaced that huge one with a smaller Masscool 50mm which is actually very quiet (for now). it's just hot-glued to the bottom to mounting screws of the H105 and doesn't touch the gpu; looks much cleaner now. but the VRMs are what made a big difference. cooling those let my fps be much more consistent in-game.
