Description

Migrating away from FreeNAS to Ubuntu+zfs with this build. With the Norco case it allows expansion to 24 HDDs.

Its very refreshing to see a build on here that's not used for gaming. This is especially true when the title doesn't include "beast" or "first build".

Plus 1 for doing your homework and pairing ZFS and ECC. Great build!

So far it has been very good, the SM board doesn't show actual CPU temps, only LOW MED or HIGH. And it has stayed in the LOW range

It says server in the title so it's used for gaming obviously.

I'm assuming he's planning on running some sort of RaidZ configuration given the ZFS file system.

I wasn't answering your question regarding what its being used for. I was answering your question (or better yet taking a guess) at how his HDD's were setup.

Drives are in RaidZ2 (6 data + 2 parity) for a total of just over 30TBs of usable space.

As I add drives I will do it in sets of 8 each time following the same RaidZ2 layout so in the end it will contain just of 90TBs of usable space (assuming 6TB drives in each 8 drive array)

It's used for media and backups
