Description

Back in 2014 I got my (back then, long-distance) girlfriend into gaming with Guild Wars 2. She used to game on her laptop with integrated radeon graphics. It was barely playable and she quickly decided to revive her old desktop. This desktop (some dell thing) crashed at the thought of booting GW2. Thus she bought herself a new machine off Amazon for £350. I was never fully impressed with the machine she bought but at the time, with no chance of building her one, this was the best deal I could find pre-built within that budget.

2 years later, we moved house together and needed to connect our PC's by Wi-Fi. Whilst the PC came with a diddy usb 2.0 powered dongle it couldn't catch any connection not even from my phone's hotspot above the desk. So that was one upgrade I made, the PCI WiFi adapter since the PCIe x1 slot was covered by the graphics card.

My dad was generous enough to donate a spare SSD gathering dust to give better boot times, the case didn't come with any spare screws to attach the SSD to its allocated space so its plainly stuffed into the case...

Today, I decided it was a nice day to clean out our desktops from all the dust. This is the first time I've gotten round to it and after careful scrutiny whilst cleaning I've come to really really appreciate what she had bought.

At first glance, its not impressive at all. A low end dual core with a GTX 650ti, already back then it was an older gen card. There was a load of spaghetti in the front and the front I/O was plastic, tacky and the ports were loose.

However, the case and what the manufacturer (for a want of a better term) did with it began to impress me. Each and every 5.25" panel had dust filters (non-removable) and sound dampening materials, the side panel with two LED fans had a basic fan controller (on/off) and there was a huge amount of effort put into wrestling the non modular cables into something tidy. The case barely needed ANY dusting after two years of use and the MoBo is still glossy! Finally, for such a cheap build it runs nearly dead silent and performs adequately with the monitor she has at hand (1440x900).

I've come to the point where I am even proud of my recommendation and the extra TLC it has received. Therefore I wish to show it off here. Comments are more than appreciated.

carpet!!!! put a sort of stand to protect your computer from all the diseases caused by carpet.

other than that, it's great to have a gaming computer. As for the pcie x1 you can buy some extender ribbon to go plug in the covered slot and use it somewhere else (any available space).

Extender is a waste of time and money now I've bought the PCI WiFi card. And carpet is not a disease in this scenario. There is no intake at the bottom of the case whatsoever. The PSU is at the top of the case :)

And yeah she loves it and says I'm a snob for wanting to build her a better one when I have something spare from my minimum wage job :D

I bet the case stayed dust free for so long because you also have made positive pressure with atleast 3 intake fans (that i can see) and one exhaust. Cool build, I just wish I could get my GF into PC gaming.

How do you know its the fan controller that causes it?

Well now that i think of it, it may have been the fans that come with it but i would still be careful

I haven't checked, I'm not overly worried with the quality and care taken with the other components but I'll double check some time.

She couldn't care less about the cables, you can't see them. I'm the pedantic one and honestly it's the best you can do in that case.
