Description

The build was a gift from friends and family for my wedding. The machine is used mostly for the video games Guild Wars 2 and League of Legends. The build would have been completed within an hour had the Motherboard actually functioned. Out of the box the motherboard's Memory slots did not function. However, after proceeding with the RMA process (which took a week and a half) I installed the new motherboard and it functioned flawlessly. Another issue is the built in Case Fans are already mounted to a manual control system on top of the Rosewill Throne-G. I decided to pull a couple fans from the manual controls and connect them to the motherboard instead so that the computer wouldn't have to solely rely on me to turn fan speeds up or down. The current configuration is the two fans in front with LEDs, one fan beside the internal bays, and the fan up top away from the CPU are manually controlled. Under load the fan at the back, bottom, other fan beside the internal bays, and the one above the CPU will function. The hope is that by the end of the year to install a Titan X, two SSDs, and double the RAM.

Make sure to switch your ram slots. You're not properly using dual channel right now.

They're even color-coded slots ... (Cringe)

Yeah, after I finish my degree in Computer Science with emphasis in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence I am sure I can make it say, "I'll be back!"

Why upgrade to a Titan? The 980ti benchmarks just as well and is a lot cheaper.

My wife says I can only get one new card at this moment and she told me to either GO BIG.... or sleep in the dog house and apparently the 980Ti isn't big enough in her books lol. (To be honest she uses my RIG to play games on too so I think she likes to brag about it).

Oh gamer wife

but you need to tell her the 12GB RAM buffer is nothing compare to the just released Fury X which uses 4GB worth of HBM that is 4096 bits wide and only need 500MHz to beat the Titan X's 384 bits memory bus.

Yeah, I told her..... She just went, "Thats nice, how about that Titan X?".... So as far as AMD hardware goes looks like she is an Intel and Nvidia supremacist.... But that gives me hope cause I had planned on building MYSELF an Apple render machine for my birthday next year so I might use nothing but AMD.

So your wife wants a Titan X to play LoL? Now that's LOL. Best of luck with your marriage.

I had to RMA the first one because the RAM slots didn't work. However, it works like a charm now and I haven't noticed any issues with this second board.

No they weren't, I got a rifle from them. As I mentioned I actually have really looked into purchasing the 980Ti, but my wife wants me to put the Titan X in there. What I might do is purchase it and then when we finally get around to building her rig (Christmas) I will put that Titan X in hers and most likely do something else with mine. I have thought about giving her the Titan X and my CPU and getting a 980Ti and an i7. Now the problem with overlocking for me is that I don't think I will just because I plan on Gifting this GPU as well (Pay it Forward).
