Description

This is my new build. I'm going to use it mostly for video rendering / editing in Ae and Pr.

I was trying to build avery powerfull and almost silent computer in an Mitx case.

I'm also going to play some games as well, SC2, Skyrim and The Witcher 3 are the games i already have.

I like the speed of the Core I7 6700k so far. I'm planning to OC but not know, i want to take my time and do it well.

I buy most of the parts at newegg. I only buy the Case at Amazon because i have Amazon Prime.

My thoughts about the parts.

  • Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core.

It's very fast. I used to have an Phenom II x6 1055T OC to 3.8 Ghz. This Core I7 "feels" a lot faster. And the whole system is very efficient. I used to use almost 200 watt with my last built, now i have 50 - 60 W idle and 150 W under full load.

  • Corsair H115i 104.7 CFM Liquid

I want to have water cooling, because i read a lot of benchmark and almost all says the WC is better. IMO is not. At least the H115i is very loud, even in silent profile and whiting a sound dampering case.

I don't know what to do. I'm thinking reusing the 212 EVO of my last build, or buy better fans. Or tweak the UEFI in order to supply less power to the CPU fans. But i think the H115i power the fans trought the sata cable. But anyway, i'm to try and update any news.

  • EVGA Z170 Stinger Mini ITX LGA1151

Best MB for the price. My other option was the Asrock, that one have Wifi / BT and all the whystles and bells. But cost 175 or more. And because i already have an USB wifi card, and don't need / care about the BT, i choose the EVGA.

  • G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB)

Fast, plenty and cheap too.

  • Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" SSD

Very fast SSD. I boot to windows in no time (about 5 seconds)

  • Western Digital BLACK SERIES 3TB 3.5"

Very fast HDD. But it's too loud.

  • EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB FTW ACX 2.0+

As far as i know, this is the best card for the money if you play at 1080p.

  • Fractal Design Define Nano S Mini ITX

I really want an small case. Thats looks sober. This one is the best. Excelent cable managment and cooling options. But i feel it is very delicated. Even when you can see it's good quality.

  • EVGA 550W ATX12V / EPS12V

Since i'm using 200 W at most (150 W playing games) i have planty power with this one. It's modular and have black cables. Silent.

I'm planing to OC to 4.8 but i'm concerned about the noise. I will post any news.

290x/970 are the best for 1080p according to tomshardware, but obviously the AMD's are way, way noisier and more power hungry so can understand if that's why you went for the 960, which will do fine unless maxed out graphics.

also nice build +1 for silence :)

Thanks. Although is not as silent as I toughed. But I'm going to make it almost silent with a new fans or some tweaks.

Yes. Silent. Great performer and silent most of the time. Also cost a lot less than a 970.

390* its the same card with 8GB VRAM and better drivers

My Sapphire R9 380 is dead silent. It's the first AMD GPU I own after 5+ Nvidias in a row and to be honest these "it's noisier" are complete BS.

I can not compare it to a 960 since I never owned one tho but most "hardcore reviewers" (i.e. not tomshardware) give a slight edge to AMD in the 380/960 competition

Was the H115i a overly tight fit in the Nano S?

I am looking to build a Z270 rig with this cooler and case and wondering if a Dremel is involved in its installation.

Are your temps fine? Do you need blower-style GPU coolers for this case?

I have the same CPU, board, and SSD! And the $120 sale for the Stinger was a no-brainer for me since I didn't need any bells & whistles. Great part choices!

If there is no solution for the noise, then using the 212 EVO should be fine. You might lose some cooling power tho, idk

Nice build! I'm also looking into doing a Nano S build with a similar EVGA power supply, the 650 GS. Have you had any problems with the graphics card intake given the location of the GPU and PSU?

EDIT: Also, if you're looking into replacing the H115i, check out be quiet! CPU coolers like the Dark Rock Pro 3 - they look extremely good, perform well, and are very quiet because they use great fans, the Silent Wings 2.

Not at all. There is plenty. You just need to put the psu to take air from the floor of the nano and everything gona be allright.

Thanks for the cup cooler tip.

Western Digital BLACK SERIES 3TB 3.5" Very fast HDD. But it's too loud.

It IS a BLACK SERIES, you pay the price for the extra comfort of knowing it will never crash and is one stable HDD. (Plus the warranty is nice)
