Description

This is a build around a I7 QH8F ES that was shown on Tech City on YouTube. The acrylic on the S340 was damaged at one point so I took a angle grinder and smoothed out the back of the side panel. Repainted it and installed a sheet of glass. The motherboard heat sinks, CPU cooler, parts of the case, and SSD cadies were painted. Unfortunately the CPU was only able to barley reach 3.0 GHz. The HHD was a old 2 tb I had sitting around.

I own a Es of a Xeon, rock on!

VERY Cool. Where did you pick up the ES? How well does it perform in day to day usage?

You can buy them on Ali Express. I recommend watching Tech Cities' video's first because, it will only work on some motherboards with only one version of the bios. It works well for every day use. It acts like a skylake I7 that is locked at 3.0 GHz. The only think is the name of the CPU is reported as "Intel 0000" I haven't found my think else that differs other than the name, clock speed and no igpu compared to a normal I7.

very very interesting. Thanks for the links.

I got it on Ali Express. I advise you to watch Tech City's video on this i7 first (called "The $100 Skylake i7 CPU - What is THIS?"). The CPU is very picky on what motherboard it will work on and what bios is on that motherboard. The only differences I found compared to a normal skylake i7 is there is no igpu, the low clock speeds (2.2 base, 2.99 OC at 1.4 V) and the name of the CPU that is reported is "Intel 0000."

Very cool, thanks for the update!

true but people with very tight budget usually depend on them

Wolfemane 7 Builds 1 point 15 months ago

They don't state anything about legality. They do say they aren't for sale or resale. Very interesting though, thanks for the link.

Ooops, reading is hard. Looks like he got it from Tech City.

They're not legal to sell, as it would be like selling stolen property. You can own it but you can't sell it per Intels terms.

They actually give OEMs, ES samples as extras and usually they can do whatever they want with them except sell them.

Nothing wrong with owning it, you can't sell it though.

Yes, BUT if someone DOES sell it to you, you owning it isn't a problem.

Intel has been know to compensate you if you contact them and return it, sometimes....

$5 for glass?

Wolfemane 7 Builds 1 point 15 months ago

You can get sheets of glass at home depot for $3 and up. I used something similar in my current build.

Cool!

I was nervous about posting my ES Build that i did due to the legal grey area with ES Samples. Mine is an older one that is a haswell i5. They are great processors. I haven't heard of anybody here getting in trouble for posting about their ES so i think i can upload mine finally.

I think even a Skylake i7 at 3.0ghz will be a very good performing CPU, and for $126 I'd say you still got quite the deal.

+1

How did you get that ES?

I have what would probably be known as an ES-version of a E5-2620 V3 that I assume was a mistake or mislabled as it came from a prebuilt workstation that came my way. How about you?

doctordeath528 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 15 months ago

I got mine from Ali Express. Be careful if you deside to buy this CPU. I advise to watch Tech City's video first called "The $100 Skylake i7 CPU - What is THIS?" The video goes over the capability issues that comes with this CPU.
