GPU Effective Memory Clock Rate

6.1GHz

Description

I built this myself which personally was very fun. I did have some noob problems in the beginning but it all paid off in the end.

Part Reviews

CPU

Great little chip I must say. Runs at 3.3ghz and can be boosted to 3.7. The stock fan was all I needed for it since it isn't an overclockable cpu. If you aren't really into overclocking this is a great choice to go with for the price.

Motherboard

This is a great motherboard other than the drivers they send with it. You have to have a second computer that can access the internet to get updated drivers because the drivers sent with it are broken (at least for me) and wouldn't allow me to use my Ethernet cable. Once I finally got the new drivers put onto it the board worked great. No complaints other than that.

Memory

great ram. 1866 over the 1600 for the same price everywhere else I couldn't find a reason to go with the others. It has great built quality and is pretty low ram. Plus the color worked great with my build.

Storage

Great little ssd. Holds my os and some games. Runs super fast and was very easy to place into my case. Love it

Video Card

Card works great. Absolutely no complaints. The fans are super quite and don't run most of the time. Even when they do come on I have to look into my case to see if they're doing anything.

Case

The case is great and durable for me so far. I have zero complaints.

Power Supply

So far this power supply works great. Just don't place it under heavy load because it creates the most god awful coil whine. Sounds like it's trying to contact aliens or something. For the price though I can't complain too much it is modular and does provide more than enough power for upgrading in the future.

Operating System

What can I say it's windows 8.1. Just hate the home screen so I downloaded a program to make it more like windows 7. Most games support windows so it was an easy choice.

Monitor

Love the monitor. It produces clean 1080p picture and performs as well as I could hope for it to. I just wish it had some other connection other than vga.

What is your cooler?

vikingXcore 4 Builds 1 point 27 months ago

Hey that's the stock cooler that comes with most (if not all) of the H97/Z97 chipset CPUs.

Supaa_badd submitter 1 point 26 months ago

Yea it's the stock cooler. I didn't see a reason to get an after market cooler because I can't overclock the cpu and the stock cooler keeps it at a good temp even when it's boosted.

Have you tried out any games yet? How's the performance from the 390?

Supaa_badd submitter 1 point 26 months ago

Yes I've been playing games on it a lot lately. It works great. Haven't played anything that it can't handle on max settings above 60 fps. Though I must say this card runs really hot. Not a surprise though it is an amd card.

JasonBent 1 point 26 months ago

Nice. What kind of temps are you getting? My 280x runs at about 70-75c (running unigine valley or GTAV) overclocked to 1140mhz, which I don't think is all that bad.

Supaa_badd submitter 1 point 26 months ago

With just two case fans it stays around 65-70c on rust with max settings Ocd to 1060 with the app. I plan to start over clocking it soon. I already have once but didnt keep it there. Had it to 1200 with no crashes or anything but I didn't think to check the temp when I did. It was hot though. Very hot, that's why I got more fans to be able to play with it ocd.

+1 for cable management!

Supaa_badd submitter 1 point 26 months ago

Thank you very much. It's my first build and I did try to keep the cables as clean as possible.

Supaa_badd submitter 1 point 26 months ago

Update: I have since replaced the monitor because I couldn't get it to work with my graphics card. I now use a Samsung s22e310. Works great. I also added two 120mm corsair fans to the front of the case and moved the original led to the back and the back fan to the top of the case.

Hey man, the build is looking awesome! I'm in the market for the SPEC 02, and the MSI r9 390, how are you finding them both?

Supaa_badd submitter 1 point 26 months ago

Mine is a spec 03 but they're basically the same case with a different front. The case is amazing. Does everything I want it to and had plenty of room for everything I wanted. The graphics card is also amazing. It runs everything I want well above 60 fps max graphics. Rust, watchdogs and Ark. No problems. It does run hot but that's not a problem for me.

SaintIve 1 point 26 months ago

Hey thanks for replying man, glad its all gone well for you! Have you had any coil whine at all by the way?

Supaa_badd submitter 1 point 26 months ago

The psu makes the most god awful coil wine I've ever heard. I really wouldn't recommend the corsair cx psu series just because after I got it and put it in my computer I found out they were poor quality. It works great but is just loud and annoying. It is though the only thing in my comp that makes any noise at all and with my hyper x cloud 2 headset on and the game going I can't hear it. Just when I'm casually browsing not using the headset is it a problem really.

SaintIve 1 point 26 months ago

Ah man that's a shame. I guess you can upgrade it down the line if you can't bear it anyway! Good to hear that the 390 isn't whining, I've been super paranoid about getting it because of that.

Congrats again bro and thanks for replying!

Ah yea it is. I've added a lot and changed a lot on it since. Just monitors and added some stuff mostly. Very nice build.
