The White Walker

Description

Hello PC Part Pickers,

This is my first fully built PC and overall I am truly satisfied how everything worked out.

The most tense moments were when I had to install the CPU and the CPU Cooler - I was really scared haha. Loved the cable management I had to do, it was fun. Also the Mobo came with some really cool BW sata cables. can't say the same thing with the power cables from the PSU - too colorful. :))

Would love to put some lights in there in the future. Thing those lights will consume much? As I have only 550W - I am afraid to consume more of it besides the crucial components.

Some worth mentioning details about the components:

CPU - I wanted something great for gaming but also for rendering / 3D / Adobe Creative Suite - I went with this to use it's 8 threads to the full.

Motherboard - Gaming - hope it is as good as advertised.

GPU - First I wanted to go for a R9 290 - but right after I ordered it I found out that the GTX 970 was going for the same price and I took that one instead :)

Case - I think I searched for a case 3 full evenings - I went with NZXT for the aspect, silence and cable management. A great surprise was the LED placed at the back I/O - gone are the days when I had to go with a torch light behind the PC to plug/unplug something.

PSU - Super Flower are good - but didn't had money for a bigger one - I found this one at 30% sale - hope I can survive with it on the long run.

Mouse - I have this mouse for 3 years now - it still works wonders! Love it!

CPU Cooler - My budget was running dry - didn't had enough for a water-cooler - maybe will update it sometime in the future. But as I don't plan to overclock, I think it will be ok.

Would love to hear from you - suggestions and feedback to improve my system. Thanks!

Update: added 3 more Corsair AF White Led Quiet Edition fans - 2x120 and 1x140 for better airflow and some lights.

I like your build a lot! Similar to what i'm going to build. How do you like the Asus Maximus 7 Hero with the Asus GTX 970 Strix video card? Did you pick them together because of the same brand?

Hello, glad you like it!

I really like the Asus mobo - it looks nice, works nice - unfortunately the onboard soundcard isn't exceptional but get's the job done.

Regarding the Asus brand - no, I chose the Strix because I got it at Black Friday promotion, same as the mobo - didn't thought about the brand that much. But now I am really happy with the GPU, it totally rocks.

Is that RAM still any good? Thinking about using it in my next build.

Yes it works terrific and looks awesome too.

Thanks, not too many reviews on Newegg, or used often on here, so you having a great experience means it's underrated. I probably will buy it too, plus it looks good!

Do you not have a hdmi or display port monitor? Because if possible I would definitely plug in using those rather than the regular old (though still reliable) dvi. But great build, love the case :)

Thanks! I use DVI for monitor, and HDMI when I hook my pc with the TV for movies.

Ah cool, makes sense, do you like the savage memory? My friend has got a kit but it's not yet installed (need to do unboxing video) and it looks amazing.

They look great, with that metal high quality feel - also didn't run into any problems so far - I say it's a great choice money/quality.
