Description

After a long and tedious 4 hours, I successfully built my first computer. It's is overall a very solid build and I am glad I chose the parts I did.

Some problems I had: - The first issue I ran into was installing my after-market CPU cooler. I was confused as to the orientation of the metal piece that attached to the bottom of the motherboard, and so I eventually got fed up, said screw it and installed the stock cooler. About 15 seconds after installing the stock cooler, my buddy figured out our mistake, so we took off the stock, cleaned the CPU of the thermal paste that rubbed off, and successfully installed the Cooler Master 212 EVO. - The case I have is very low quality. Despite having a rad name, it was very bad. The built in motherboard stand-offs are an unwelcome feature as they rise the motherboard so much that the top of the CPU cooler actually pushed out the side panel slightly and scratches the side window if it moves. Also, the metal strips you have to remove to open the port area for the graphics card were straight AWFUL. They weren't, easy detach, you actually have to rip them off, and then they leave a small metal bit that I had to use pliers to move.

Despite the crappy case, the build is very good. The parts I chose are very high quality and I got a top of the line CPU and GPU.

Part Reviews

CPU

Seems to be running well. It runs at idle about about 33 degrees Celsius. Lightning fast.

CPU Cooler

The CPU cooler was my main source of frustration during this build, taking about an hour to finish it. The part is high quality but the instruction manual might as well be Japanese.

Motherboard

Very nice motherboard. One thing I am going to gripe about is the fact that it doesn't specify between SATA 6g/s and SATA 3g/s on the ports.

Memory

Well, RAM is RAM. Feels solid, does it's job. Can't complain.

Storage

After sitting off for an entire night, I can boot up and get me to my sign-in screen in 7 seconds. Legendary.

Storage

For some reason, it doesn't appear under devices when I look in the "my computer" area. I know it is plugged in properly however, as it was shown in the listed storage devices when I was installing Windows 8.1. Once I figure that out, I'm sure it will work fine.

Video Card

Haven't tested this on any games. Will update upon testing. I will say however, that it feels very nice and solid. And it just looks SEXY.

Case

This is the one regret I have with this build. This case is very low quality. The small metal strips that are screw removed to open up an area on the back of the case for the video card ports have to actually be physically pried off. And they leave a little unattractive metal piece sticking off that I had to peel back with pliers in order to push my card up all the way. Another gripe I have with this is that the built-in motherboard standoffs elevate the board to much, causing the top of my Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO to push up against the window and actually scratch it when I remove it.

This will definitely be the first thing I upgrade.

Power Supply

I bought this at a local computer store, where the guys said it would be fine. I know it is low quality, and it will be the second thing I upgrade after my case. But for now, it does it's job, and makes almost no noise.

Operating System

It has a nice and simple installation, and is fairly simple. I still prefer windows 7 as I am not a fan of the tile'd windows phone looking screen, but it works. Definitely can't wait for Windows 10.

Mouse

I absolutely LOVE my DeathAdder Chroma. The mouse feels great, very solid. It moves very smoothly, and the software that you use to change the colors and set button bindings, Razer Synapse, is very simple and easy to user. Great mouse.

+1 for the safety bracelet! Not a bad build but could you get a few more pics of everything all together up?

JarreBear submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

For sure! As soon as I get home, I will upload some pictures of everything finished!

Nice solid build mate. I would flip your PSU though normally cases have filters at the bottom.

JarreBear submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

I originally tried to do that, but the way that the screw holes are situated for my case, it will only screw in with the fan facing upwards. I am severely disappointed with this case :(

vordar 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

That's odd, the PSU should be common enough to line up. Try searching for both your case and PSU and see if anyone else had a similar issue or not. They might have a little trick if it didn't like up perfect like a popsicle stick to prop it up or something (No idea, but you get where im going!).

JarreBear submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

I'll definitely be looking more into that. Thanks!

Hmm weird. I can recommend the corsair 240 air

@JarreBear- Glad you got it all sorted out. I have to agree with you on the cpu cooler being a bit goofy to install. Took me a lot longer than I anticipated, but it wasn't too bad I guess, just went way slow to make sure I did it right. Same for you I'm sure. Looks like you have a nice set up

miikson 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

They are all SATA 6 ports correct?

TheMightyBacon 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

Nice build!! Have you had any mobo debug code issues? Im running the same mobo but sometimes I get the D3 and D4 codes after boot. The PC runs just fine but I'm curious if anyone else got those codes off the G1 sniper.

JarreBear submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

I also have a few different codes on the motherboard, but my PC works completely fine.

TheMightyBacon 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

bios update fixed this issue for me btw, if your still getting codes other than AO consistently
