Built this machine for gaming, I don't use my PC for anything else really but if I do, I don't have any worries about having enough power. It's not anything ridiculous compared to some of the builds on this site as I had a sort of budget about £1000, I did manage to get a lot of the parts cheaper than it is listed.
I've built 2 AMD pc's years ago and are still pretty good. After looking at parts and reviews, I decided to go with a Intel Corsair build with MSI, so a red and black theme. I'm not gonna go into great detail here just general thoughts... decided to try overclocking and got 4.5Ghz with easy voltage and temps, I'm happy...
CPU - Went for this as its the fastest 4 core CPU I could have got for the money. I didn't need any more cores.
CPU Cooler - Set up as pull push with 4 SP120 Quiet edition fans as I heard about noise with the performance ones. Overkill but I like it :D
Motherboard - Had everything I needed..
Memory - I had Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4) DDR3 1600mhz, Upgraded to Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB (4x4) DDR3 2400mhz.
Storage - 850 EVO as boot drive with some applications, 1.5 TB just for games library. Added a 3 TB HD and another 850 EVO 500GB SSD.
Video Card - 980's are out of my budget, read up on MSI 970 was 1 of the best cards, so it was a no brainer for me. I plan to SLI sometime in the future...
Case - Total overkill tbh, but its future proof for further upgrades (same goes for the PSU). Also wanted a big badass case with window to be a sort of feature in the room, I got the 2x40mm LED's running above and below the window.
