Description

I built this computer to help feed my addiction of gaming. Gaming has been my hobby for many years. I remember playing Super Nintendo with my Dad when I was 5. The idea of getting immersed in a world that is nothing like the one we live in has always intrigued me. I have always been a console gamer until I was about 15 when I could save up some money to afford to build a PC. I built my first computer when I was 15 which ended up being a middle of the road computer. It served me well for a few years until I went back to console gaming. Last year I decided to try PC gaming again and I am so glad that I did. I originally bought a pre built MSI computer with a 6700k and 1070. I got into playing games like PUBG which demand a lot from your computer. I had the extra funds and wanted to future proof myself so I took a plunge off the deep end and built this beauty. I have never dreamed of having something this nice. With hard work, dedication, and saving money (and a good job) you can get whatever you want in life! Thanks for stopping by!

I named the build Shadow after my dog : )

  • Parts update* I have wanted RGB memory for a while now so I decided to throw some more money at the build and bought 16 GB of GSKILL 3200 Trident Z memory. Will post some pics sometime this week!

Update* I added some pics of the new battle station which includes the PC I built for my fiancé. It looks similar to mine but with a white case, less RGB and a 1070 instead of 1080ti.

I wouldn't call it the Money Pit, looks like money well spent. Nice build.

Clean build! I almost went with a S340 elite and hue lighting but, liked the corsair RGB lighting better.

Curious how it performs, any issues with temps? Thanks for the compliment!

enjoy the dell monitor bro, I have two 27 inch models in my setup, though I do not have truly adequate hardware to power them, but I bough them to fulfill my desire to not have to buy new monitors down the line.

Otterman366 2 Builds 3 points 2 months ago

I too have the same monitor and with a 1080 ti it is unreal

bladd12001 3 Builds 1 point 2 months ago

except fo the fact that I am running two of them from an i3 and a 1060 6gb ATM because of cryptocurrency and RAM prices.

Very nice parts selection.

I see you likely made a trip to the local Micro Center. I have that EVGA Ram in 2 rigs at the moment. Seems to work well, and normally has an unbeatable price.

How do you like the FTW3 ICX card ?

JustindemGUTZ submitter 1 Build 1 point 2 months ago

Yes I did get the memory from MC! I have had no problems with it and it is usually priced 50 dollars cheaper than all other brand memory, no brainer there! I love the FTW3 so far. I originally had an Asus strix 1080ti but it had some odd DP connection issues so I returned it for the FTW3 and I am glad I did. Card runs cool, has temp indicators on actual card, is extremely fast, and mine is quiet with no coil whine (Unless fans are 100 percent).

sponix 6 Builds 1 point 2 months ago

Yeah, If I get an Nvidia card is is likely gonna be the EVGA ICX FTW2 card. I think the 3rd Fan is a bit of overkill especially length wise. But the dual fan ones are very sexy.

Glad to hear that it has a good acoustic profile. That means a lot to me. I recently went all Noctua in my main rig for that reason.

did you use and internal usb hub for your fans and Hue+?

JustindemGUTZ submitter 1 Build 1 point 2 months ago

I only have the Hue + connected to my fans, no usb hub. Hue + has two connections for RGB fans, only other fans I have are the two radiator fans for the Kraken radiator. All fans plugged into Mobo for power/control.

Clean build like the selection of parts used. How is the EVGA 1080Ti working out? Still cant decide between the EVGA and the Asus Strix 1080Ti Can I ask about the desk your using?

JustindemGUTZ submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Thank you! I love the EVGA 1080 Ti so far. I have had it for about 3 months and no issues yet. I had it overclocked and no issues with high temps or anything. Was modest overclock though. I had the Asus strix 1080 Ti and I had to return it because the second display port was faulty and caused flickering. It was a hair faster but not applicable in real world situations. They perform equally and I prefer the flashy look of the EVGA with the bold lettering on the side. The Asus is a bit more stealthy in that regard. I am using a right sided BEKANT desk from Ikea. They run about 250 dollars. Very sturdy and has worked great for the year that I have had it. Thanks for stopping by!

Considering buying the monitor that you have used for this build. What do you think of it? Does it have any problems? Is it worth the buy?

Thanks, also great build btw looks great :D

JustindemGUTZ submitter 1 Build 1 point 2 days ago

I actually returned it due to its input lag. I bought the benq xl2540 instead.
