Description

It's not finished, but I couldn't wait to put it together. So here it is. Let me know what you think so far.

CPU- Picked it because I was on a trip to Dallas stopped at Microcenter and came across a deal that I couldn't say no to.

Cooler- Best reviews/price for performance that I could find. Love this thing. I might change the fans some day, but they aren't loud unless I'm really busy.

Motherboard- I got this in a combo with the i7 for $75. I was going to get the MSI GD65, but couldn't say no to the price.

Memory- Great memory. Need more. Came up as 1600 on the first post but made a quick change and everything is good.

Storage- Saved enough on the motherboard and Microcenter had a small rebate. Also have a 2TB drive that I grabbed out of my old rig.

Video Card- No price because I don't have it yet. This is the one I plan on getting, but looking really hard at the 7970. Built in Haswell/HD4600 is good enough to mess around with it and see what I can get this thing to do.

Case- Amazing case a little unorthodox, but great tio work in/on. Going to paint it down the road and add a couple more custom touches.

Power Supply- Found a great deal on Newegg with great reviews. Semi-modular is a nice change.

OS- Windows 7 64 ultimate/Linux mint15 cinnamon.

USES- I design custom parts using 3ds Max Design. This will be for when I bring my work home with me. I also intend to have this replace my console system for when I do have timke to pay a couple games now and then. Love playing FPS when I have a chance.

Is this a final fantasy 7 reference?

Good catch, my favorite villain of all time. FF VII and Quake II were my games of choice when I first started gaming.

OMG! Finally someone that knows of FF VII, IMHO it's the best story ever created! Even the prequel was good!

If its between a GTX 760 and a HD 7970, get the 7970. 3GB vram without the price premium you pay for the 4gb on the GTX 760. Not to mention its substantially better and you can find one for $340 or so.

Right now you can get a 7970 for $280 which is absolutely an insane deal.

At that price it would be absolutely crazy if you still went with a GTX 760

Yeah this is the one I was thinking about getting, I've had the 760 on the plans for a couple months and the 7970 is looking better everyday

The 7970 is going to perform a lot better. What resolution are you using?

Do you like the monitor?

Yeah its amazing. Great field of view. I actually have the 24" version, but couldn't find it on the parts list. The only thing I'm not an absolute fan of is the base, but if you have a good desk or plan to wall mount it will not matter.
