It was time for me to get a new HTPC primarily to run Plex Media Server and to record cable television using a Ceton InfiniTV 4. I also wanted the option to do some gaming but that was strictly a side option. This is the first build I've ever done so I'm still working on cable management.
I've always purchased products with Intel chips but the deal on the AMD FX 8150 was too good to pass up. It scored really strong benchmarks for video transcoding on Tom's Hardware so it was a great fit for my build.
I went WAY overboard on the RAM. I know its way more than I'll ever need, but it was a great price I figured why the hell not.
There is a ton of hard drive space for the large amount of media content I have. I'm not concerned with losing any of it to due to hard drive failure so I passed on a RAID configuration.
I've always been a console gamer and never purchased an aftermarket video card. The selection of the GTX 660 was based mostly on input from friends and that it fit into my budget. Gaming on this is a distant second priority.
The Ceton InfiniTV 4 is still in my old HTPC. Once I finish managing the cables and drop it in I'll take some more photos.
UPDATE 2/16/14. I've since added a second GTX 660 in SLI, 480gb Extreme II SSD, and put the cable card tuner into the case.
