This is essentially my 3 pc but my 2nd real gaming rig. This was to be an upgrade of sorts to a Ryzen 5 1600 system with a MSI B350 Tomahawk mob but I decided since I would have to buy a motherboard anyway and I primarily game to switch to Intel and picked up the i7-8700k. That led to the ROG Strix z370 Gaming E mob. After that I just decided to move on from my older parts and pass that computer on to my youngest son. I fabricated the wire shroud for the front inside out of plexi and for a 1st time I think it worked out. I might extend it a bit towards the back to cover up the Thermaltake psu logo. Let me know what you think. In the future I plan to add dual water loops, another gpu to run sli, an m.2 drive and another Samsung monitor.

Part Reviews

Super duper blazing fast. Made an instant difference in my gaming experience and still performs well enough in multi thread processes.

CPU Cooler

Software suck hairy man pillows. If it works, it's great. It is beautiful. To be clear, the rad and aio portion work great...its just that darn software.

Wi fi, Bluetooth, great oc ability/utility. More than enough fan headers. Built in rgb headers, rgb lighting on the io. Can't say enough about how good this board is.

It's memory. It works. Didn't have the same issues as I had with finding memory for the MSI board which was a pain.

This thing is awesome. After getting it installed and all my ish migrated I now boot almost instantly into windows. AWESOME!!

It stores stuff. 5 stars cause it's cheap and works well

Should have spent more money initially on drives. Gaming takes up a lot of storage. I need more. Its expensive. Answer...this drive. Again..It ain't sata drive fast or anything but it stores my games

Video Card

Love it. Some regret on not getting a 1080ti but seeing as I will not be getting another gpu of any type it seems for quite awhile, I will be content. It is a beast and I have it clocked to 2088mhtz. I can't wait to see if there will be enough support for sli in the future to make it worth while or am I going to have to upgrade.

I love Thermaltake Cases, this one in particular. 4 panels of 5 mm thick glass, easy to remove, easy to build in, tons of room, multiple configurations, space for 2x360 rads front and back, comes with 3 rgb fans and a controller. Also I got it for 30 off from Micro Center when I bought it.

Power Supply

Quiet, colorful, has the wattage I need to grow with my pc upgrades..ie: cooling loops

Operating System

it's windows

Decent, cheap 1080p monitor. Colors are crisp. Only hits 60hz. I use it as my side monitor now for system ish

This baby is a beaut. 100hz refresh, 4ms response time, 3440x1440 21:9, curved. I love it. Everything runs like butter. I know I would have been better served getting a G-Sync monitor but this sucker was 120 off normal (new, not ob or anything). also has decent built in speakers and a usb hub on the back of monitor

My son has this one and after using his I had to get one. Leaps ahead of my old devastator 2 mouse/keyboard combo. Love these mech keys. also love the included textured keys for wasd

I got this mouse to go with the keyboard. I like it well enough but I was hoping there would be more support for the side keyboard in other games besides games like Dota2 or HOS. I play a lot of DCS world and those xtra 10 keybindings on a mouse would be like mana.

Okay. 1st set of cans I bought. Have lasted almost a year and a half. Mic is messed up already. Pretty but fragile. Like that it has a rgb component. Looking for something better. Maybe Steinheisser or something? Leave me some suggestions.

Bought these on a whim at Micro Center one day, mostly cause they were 25. Surprisingly good sound quality from such small speakers.

External Storage

Bought this a LONG time ago to store games from my xbox 1. Now it serves as my backup drive. Have to have of those.

Thank you.

Wait. If u paid 530 for a 1070ti y didn't u go for a 1080?

aburrell23 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

the 1070ti was 530 for the hybrid I bought which PC Partspicker never shows. When I went to buy, the cards were 450-500 for regular 1070/ti's and 650-800+ for 1080/ti's and the 150-200 dollar difference made the decision that day. Also, didn't think we would all be looking at 800 1070's and 1200 1080's like we are now.

Tech22 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

Yeah that sucks. Back in last October when the 1080s were 600 MSRP was already pretty annoying, but that is when I got mine. These miners are really screwing too many people over.

aburrell23 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Yeah I bought the 1070 in December after I got my Oculus and found out that my 1050ti barely could run it. Hope this stops soon.

Otterman366 13 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

if you haven't noticed graphics card prices are fried. The cheapest 1080 is $640

Tech22 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

You seem to have not noticed that the parts were purchased before the price inflation.

Otterman366 13 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

The inflation started before the 1070 ti was even a thing…

5.1! Nice! What were your settings?

aburrell23 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

there are a lot of diff things I fiddled with. I basically followed a great guide that a guy on you tube set up for 4.9-5.0 from there I just upped the voltage to 1.455 to get the xtra .1. Granted, I can run that clock all day but for most gaming I use a 5.0 oc profile. Temps stay around 72 under load at 5.1

Obamas.mama 3 Builds 2 points 14 months ago

Damn that's crazy, nice. I got a bad piece of silicone :( I can't even get stable after 4.7 no matter what voltage, and after 1.4 my temps are through the roof (using a kraken x62 280mm rad)

aburrell23 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

that suck bro. yeah i kinda won the lottery given that it's stable with the reg aio I've got on it.

Justinpk 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

does your LLC work with the z370-E?

aburrell23 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

in what way. everything is works fine as long as i have correct software/drivers installed. its just sometimes the software selection for each new device can be vague.

Justinpk 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

there's a known issue where your vcore you set it bios drops down a lot when you put it on load. LLC is supposed to prevent it but for me when I put LLC to 5 or even 6 it droops down to 1.24 when I have it set at 1.3vcore

was just wondering if it happens to you too. Im on newest bios version

aburrell23 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

I'm on newest bios but am now having some voltage spiking and some high temps while gaming. I set v core to 1.40 had it at 1.55 and it was stable for most testing and then it wasn't . So I dropped to 4.8 and lowered to 1.40 and everything seems to be great.

Justinpk 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Thanks for the reply, that's a scary jump, I hope they get this figured out.

pcbulider456 1 point 14 months ago

great part choices but for the price you should of put a 1080ti but it is still a great rig

aburrell23 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Yeah, I agree but like I said, at the time the cards were already out of wack and reg 1080's were over 650 and ti's were around 8-850 already. I felt for the price difference it wasn't warranted at the time and had a future upgrade path set for the coming months (saw the 1070 ti as a stopgap of sorts) but that got wrecked by miners. So now I'm waiting to either pair it with another 1070 ti in sli when prices come down or I might just pocket the 1080ti when I can get one and pass down the 1070 to son #1 and son #2 gets a 1050ti (my 1st gpu). Interestingly my son said to ebay my card and then use that for a 1080ti lol...I might do that

Dtwenty 1 point 11 months ago

Hi, I see the back plate on your card. Where does one acquire one and how much? thank you.

aburrell23 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

The back plate on the 1080ti comes with it. It's a Nvidia GTX 1080ti FTW3. If you are looking for cool gpu backplates rgb or not check out jmmods.com or v1tech.com. Also check out vids on youtube. GPU backplates are easy to make. All you need is a couple of stickers, plexi, paint and you're off.

Awesome build, one question... why the tiny 250 gig drive?

aburrell23 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

its my os drive. I also have a 250gb and a 1tb hdds for games and other programs.

Ronald_5657 1 point 2 months ago

How is this build holding up? I'm going to be building pretty much the same thing apart from the card i will be using a non "ti" gtx 1070. Thanks in advance, and the build and your setup look so beautiful!

aburrell23 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 2 months ago

I actually upgraded last year (October?) to a 1080ti. Other than that the build is a beast. Honestly, I’m very happy with my rig right now but may take my other system and combine them in an evolve x. Thanks for the feedback. Happy building!
