Thunder Up! This is a Ryzen 1700x run!

by jeffstokes72

Description

I run Hyper-V on Win10 pro and game on this. The GPUs are not both the Titaniums but I couldn't figure out how to make it reflect that...

The water cooler is actually a Cooler Master Master Liquid 240, but I don't see it in this site.

Yeah I need to cable manage this (still)

Why did you take a picture of your spaghetti bowl haha... Can I come over and clean that up for you PLEASE!! Good rig after cleanup

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 2 points 20 months ago

lol that's a good name for it. I've never been, uh, organized. But yeah you guys are all right, this is a mess.

Karokiyu 2 points 19 months ago

The dust though.. Good lord

Lichimaru 1 Build 4 points 20 months ago

Looks interesting, would be nice to see more pictures after some cleanup and new cable management.

rhali8 2 Builds 2 points 20 months ago

Very nice.

The GPU is probably the weakest link, but I am ok with tuning some games down a little.

Uhh... I don't think the 1060 is a weak link. It's capable of playing games at 1440P pretty decently, and smashes out games at 1080P 100+FPS.

SubNauticaWaterWorld47 4 points 20 months ago

Some 1080p games the 1060 gets over 100 fps but in most it's around the 80 fps mark or if you look at ARK survival evolved you get a nice smooth 17fps avg. at 1080p max settings.

blockbuster4664 1 Build 2 points 20 months ago

What in blue, I'm sorry, neon green blazes is that fan? I've never seen a fan that shade of clear/green. And is that 200mm? Also 1060 is the god of 1080p so you should have no prob playing 1080 at ultra

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 3 points 20 months ago

I had the case wrong. It's a Apevia X-Sniper2-GN mid-tower case. Got the fan somewhere, Microcenter I think.

blockbuster4664 1 Build 2 points 20 months ago

It's certainly a unique fan and case. But that cable management, ouch

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 2 points 20 months ago

yeah, that fan, by the way, it warped some time ago, I just got it spinning again but putting 2 of the mount screws UNDER the housing for the fan, to prop it further from the case siding. And then 2 to actually screw it into the case siding so it wouldn't fall off. So it has a gap, but spins again.

Some of the fan vanes are just bent or waped a little. It doesn't generate a LOT of airflow either, but it is good to have some positive suction into the case other than the power supply at the bottom.

blockbuster4664 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

lol it might be a good idea to invest in some twin 140s from corsair

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

For the CPU? I have a CoolMaster 240 on it, but it's not in the pcpartpicker db last I checked.

Th3ArCh0n 6 Builds 2 points 20 months ago

I'm confused, the case in the part list is not the case in the picture.

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 2 points 20 months ago

oh. Damn you're right! Let me fix!

SirHalpin 1 Build 2 points 20 months ago

I just had a heart attack, need LIFEALERT

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

well, you know, it's all a series of tubes, this internet thing...

scwee 2 Builds 2 points 20 months ago

Are you gonna clean that thing? It's really gross, but cool parts :D

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

Yeah its an old case, i should do an alcohol swab of it all over

Lonewolf13579 2 points 18 months ago

Any idea what the cooler master 120 liquid cooler keeps the cpu at under heavy load?

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

It's actually a cooler Master 240 liquid cooler I got a Microcenter. The PCPartPicker site didn't have the part when I built this list.

So I run hyper-v on 10 on this. 1060 6GB and 1070 in slots 1 and 3. And over clocked to 3.75 Ghz. No heat issues. Ever.

I'll run cpu-z and check it while I run cryptonote miner on 8 cores. See where it tops out at and post back here.

Lonewolf13579 1 point 18 months ago

Cool thanks man

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

39 degrees Celsius Not even a deviation.

MikeFoxtrot85 1 Build 2 points 4 months ago

I really want to do something similar to your build, but running Ubuntu on bare metal and Windows 10 on a VM.

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 2 points 4 months ago

Hey there. Yeah that was my original goal actually. To do the immersion thing and learn linux as my main pc. However, I can't find a quality way to use a video card to render 3d/games inside a guest VM with Linux as the host. They do have video pass-through I'm told, but that dedicated a card to the virtual guest, not the same. Win10 makes this dumb easy with RemoteFX

MikeFoxtrot85 1 Build 2 points 4 months ago

Well my plan is to use the "Looking Glass" KVM to create and run my Windows VM, but I'm new to the whole VM game. I'm just looking for something more constructive to do than play GTA V all the time. :-p

zmac0135 1 point 20 months ago

Gotta ask lol. Are you an OKC fan?

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

Ah, nah, it's a reference to Mad Max: Fury Road. :)

necrodor21 1 point 20 months ago

maybe you need more ram if want better read for that size storage and up your gpu kinna hard to hit 3 monitors

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

Forgot I had that 1920x1200 on there, I did have issues with 3 monitors so I sold the 1920x1200 and kept the 2 1920x1080s

necrodor21 1 point 20 months ago

better give away to me :D

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

Speaking of cable management, anyone have any advice on what I should do, since its pseudo-green field here?

I'm thinking of some of those sticky cable holders to put in the case itself and maybe some crimp cables?

rhombae 1 Build 2 points 20 months ago

Try velcro strips, they're much easier to redo than cable ties and you can group loads of cable together if you just want to get them out of the way. Do you have any space behind the back panel in that case to route cables?

Cable management is really for maintenance and aesthetic purposes though, just FYI. Bad management won't really hurt your temps much (unless you have a sff case).

jeffstokes72 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

Thanks rhombae!

FurryJackman 2 Builds 1 point 4 months ago

You should definitely look into QEMU/KVM on Linux for your Hypervisor...

If that sounds too daunting, you can buy unRAID (a paid Linux distro) which is the same thing, but takes all the guesswork out of it.

you don't need all ram to be the same size per slot. they are two channel, so each pair needs to be the same.

I can add some more pics, sure. And to be fair, it's really more, like, a 1/4 *** pic. The insides are something of an embarrassment, so you might be amused by the pics I take shortly.

SubNauticaWaterWorld47 3 points 20 months ago

Just take your time man to clean up the cables.

1v1_me_dark_souls 3 points 20 months ago

Comments should be polite and constructive. In the future, please keep that in mind.

SubNauticaWaterWorld47 1 point 20 months ago

You stole my comment man. Thanks though.

SubNauticaWaterWorld47 2 points 20 months ago

I believe you meant "Could you upload some more pictures for your build and/or clean up the cable management. Also can you have two different size sets of ram?"

bigskoops 3 Builds 1 point 20 months ago

you right. sorry. didn't mean to deflect frustrations at the time onto you
