The 980ti is basically the same as a 1070, so he's fine for gaming.

Except for the architecture, amount of GDDR5, 6gbs versus 8gbs and the fact that a 1070 is more up to date and it has potential to last longer. Also according to GPU Boss, the 1070 also has better preformace per watt, graphics, noise/power and computing.

Yes, but they still perform the same.

No, the point is its not. The 1070 has 8gb GDDR5 which in turn performs better than the 980ti's 6gb. Since the graphics are better it performs slightly faster than the 908ti. The preformance per watt only helps when choosing a PSU so the benefits there are minimal and finally the noise and power don't improve preformace but its nice to have a quieter, more preformance based card. So I'm just saying, the preformance although similar is not the same.

Yeah, the fps isn't far off, like 2 or 3 frames.

That's only if the task is using 6+ gbs of the Vram, so if the game is using 4gb then there will be no difference. It makes sense to buy a used 980ti for $150ish instead of a new 2070 for $380

Yeah, if he bought it full price then it wouldn't be worth it.

Because you could pick up a used 980 ti for under $300 now... I would guess. He probably got a good deal being he has no price listed
