I got the idea for this build this past summer when I bought a new mechanical keyboard and mouse (corsair K70 Lux cherry blue with M65 mouse). He had also bought a new monitor. His computer however was an amalgam of scavenged parts from other computers in a word...old and slow. I bought a few parts each month when I saw a good deal and thought we could build the computer over Thanksgiving since his birthday in November. It will also be his Christmas gift. The scheme color was scarlet, black and silver. I kept this going with the red Asus wireless card, the Trident Z Ram, and the motherboard. I gave him a choice of three cases and he chose my favorite the Enthoo Evolv. I have a serious mancrush on this case. It is sleek and sexy especially in the anthracite gray color. my only concern were some reviews suggesting the airflow in the top of the case was restricted and could cause high temps. After further reviews I decided to go for it. I hedged my bet by replacing the stock radiator fans with the always superb Noctua industrial series fans. I even replaced the brown anti-vibration pads with the red Chroma ones from Noctua and that does look sharp. I also had some leftover individually sleeved red VGA and CPU cables so I only had to buy a 24 pin red cable extension to complete the look. Cable management was easy. It took us 3 hours to assemble a running computer with me instructing my son who did the actual building. we even breadboarded the major components before placing them into the case. I really love the detachable lift off side panel doors. The only potential glitch was the clearance between the top of the heat spreader on the Ram and the radiator when mounted on the slide in radiator tray. The Trident Z (44 mm tall) was right up against the radiator. Luckily I had chosen this Ram as opposed to the platinum dominator (55 mm tall) which I had considered. Had I got that ram I likely would have had to mount the radiator in the front of the case which can be done. The idle temps are 29 C for the CPU and 52 C for the GPU. I don't have the load temps but I will post them when he sends them to me. The Noctua fans are dead quiet and work great. The stock case fans are also very good so I did not replace them. When I left to fly home he was gaming away and kicking some major tail in Witcher 3.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

my fourth hydro series cooler and no problems and they do work well.

My second build with this board and no problems

looks great and has solid reviews

cant go wrong for the price and perrformance

I have never had a WD hard drive fail. Go Black and you wont regret it.

Video Card

So far seems to be a great card

Just a great case. well built and easy to build in with plenty of room and cable routing options. worth every penny.

Power Supply

my second EVGA PSU. What's not to like? 10 year warranty and top rated by Jonny Guru.

Operating System

I actually like Windows 10

Wireless Network Adapter

My fourth ASus wireless card and all work without problems

Case Fan

Simply the best fans in my opinion and now you can customize the color with the Chroma anti-vibration pads.

Yeah i did. That was a shot of the closed side of the case before i did the cable management. I just need to put the combs on the 24 pin and take the velcro braid off of it.

I just got the temps running this rig from my son. Idle temp CPU 29 and GPU 31, running Witcher three at 75% load CPU at 36 and the GPU 68 or 69. Ambient temp is 32 or 33. I am pretty well pleased how this turned out and boy bare those Noctuas quiet!

Have you tried your PC with games like Kerbal Space Program and Fallout 4 yet?

no actually my son lives far away from me but he's been playing Witcher 3 mainly and also plays a lot of DOTA 2. I was actually visiting him this past weekend and was messing around with witcher 3 and the computer runs that with no problems. what I find most impressive with this rig is that it is dead quiet. Fans do make a difference.
I think it's going to be time for me to replace my first computer build as its 5 years old. running a GTX 770 and that card still handles pretty much anything I throw at it. I was recently playing Metro and a few issues but not sure if it was Steam or my computer. Gotta step up to a 1070 or more likely a 1080 because the prices on the 1070 is outrageous. I think I bought his for $409 and the same card now is well over $500 s for a few bucks more I may go with the 1080.

yeah I did not get the combs adjusted just right and I did not get to putting the comb on the 24 pin as we were on our way out to meet some friends for drinks. from the side window the case actually looks stark and empty in there. I told him to put the comb on the 24 pin but probably next time I am there in a couple weeks i'll end up doing it...haha.
