Description

First shot at building a PC for home use and light gaming (League mostly). Purchased parts as they went on sale to optimize the money spent but took what felt like FOREVER! Finally got everything I needed to get the barebones finished. Cable management isn't great but my detail oriented wife did a much better job that I would have!

Planning to get a SSD soon, also adding a graphics card when one that I like goes on sale. Possibly upgrading to an i5 if I get more interested in PC gaming. Open to any suggestions, questions, or comments.

Thanks! She was feeling neglected because we spent a few hours building the PC instead of playing with her.

Ya it was a limited time offer, if you search DSH sometimes you can find them but they are pretty spendy. Unfortunately this wasn't a model that came with RGB, only grey...

No graphics card?

Not yet, I'm planning to put one in once I find one that is on sale and matches my somewhat black/white theme. For now I'll just have to deal with the intel 630 graphics.

Don't blame you, the graphics card prices are insane due to the mining craze.

Ya, for what I want it for currently I can manage without one until prices go down.

The computer now belongs to the cat.

Nice upgrade path for your rig. How is that old 5400rpm drive? You'll want an SSD fo sure!

It's old... when we booted it up it tried to start windows 7. We pulled it off an old computer my wife got that her work was giving away. I'm planning to get a SSD very soon I just was too excited and couldn't wait.

1+ for the cat's face reaction (and the build, of course)!

That's a pretty damn good Motherboard for a B250 series and also good-looking RAMs and Case!

Which SSD and GPU are you planning to get? As for the CPU upgrade, the i5-7500 would be the best choice.

Thanks! Im looking at probably a Samsung 120GB SSD for OS and main files and adding a 1TB HDD in the future for other junk. As far as the GPU I'm not sure yet, still researching. I would like something in the $100-$200 range that is black and white but I'm really open if you have any suggestions.

I know when the GTX 1060s were just released they were about $200 and not above $250. Hopefully that'll change in the very near future.

I think there is a nice collection of GPUs that are black/white, mostly those from EVGA which are highly recommended GPUs as well.

Thanks! It's a race between my wife and I (she has the wine one). I'm obviously winning.

You managed to construct a black and white themed PC AND stick to a budget. That is very impressive. I'm actually kinda jealous.

I do have to take points off for not using all your parts though, the cat needs to be on the inside of the case for it to work.
