Description

My submission for scratch build in Cooler Master Case Mod 2016 :)

Hexagon base is from an old pedestal, it's two pieces of plastic which I was able to dremmel into bits which allowed me to hide most of the cables inside and thread a power button though as well which is ideal!

To invert the motherboard I cut the tips of 4 ballpoint pens (these are perfect for mobo screws) and secured them in the points I had created. I made the PSU look a harder to spot by cutting into the first and second layer of my base in different spots so it would sit on a slope and draw air from underneath.

Originally I had intended for the graphics card and t-virus res but it would have been just to normal looking - the T-virus is an amazing res but this is a scratch build and needs be really unique so I did the open air water feature instead, the 4460 is enough to play some league of legends anyway :)

A quick vid of the first tests https://www.instagram.com/p/BFxFPONQDBM/

With plants boot test = https://www.instagram.com/p/BF4-TpVQDF9/

Full moss closeups = https://www.instagram.com/p/BF5GL-qQDFB/

The build looks best with the pump on low, it's really nice with the water rolling down the rock :)

It was a lot of fun to make - I hope you like it!

GG!

He's right, you just murdered any competition lol

imawesomeali 1 Build 5 points 11 months ago

F****** what. This is amazing, I'm curious however if this build can stand the test of time. I worry that the free flowing water and moss might cause unwanted damage to the components but it looks so amazing!

GoodGamingPC submitter 22 Builds 2 points 11 months ago

Thanks! It was a pretty interesting one to build and I also wonder about longevity. I think it's probably safest done with cactus and and little zen garden on the the mobo to keep things a bit dryer. The res has a little gauss over the intake but with the water running over the rock I might need to add a really thin mesh just in case, I'll know if the pump starts grinding I guess. :P

imawesomeali 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

Sounds good, my concern specifically was if the water starts to evaporate and then condense on the components although if this was going to be an issue I'm sure you would've noticed by now. Again, absolutely stunning build and good luck with any future modifications/builds/etc.!

wanako 2 Builds 4 points 11 months ago

ok this is one of the most unique builds i've ever seen... omg...

stax 3 Builds 3 points 11 months ago

Took me a while to realize you made it into not just a terrarium, but a a freaking FOUNTAIN. That takes some guts.

Sweet idea, great execution. Hope your succulents like it too :D

Well l'll be damned!!! Never thought that was possible. Wow! Brilliant.

MightyAlFred 3 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

That's absolutely beautyful! I'd love to make something like this, but I really don't know how plants and dirt would affect the system. About that, is the loop open? does that mean there are air bubbles in the loop? Does it affect temps? It looks very cool though, good job again!

GoodGamingPC submitter 22 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

Yep those bubbles raised the temp upto 76 during burn. You can get rid of the air by topping the pond up after you switch it on but when you power down the radiator empties and the pond can overflow, this was suprising fine as some dremmel mistakes acting like drains. I think i can slope the res to fix this :)

dax_olesa 2 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

Antios 1 point 11 months ago

Please tell me what rocks, plants and moss you are using for this I having been planning something similar but I don't anything to screw up. It would be cool if you made a video detailing every step of making this piece of art.

+1 call it a feature

GoodGamingPC submitter 22 Builds 2 points 11 months ago

Best advice is make sure you've got an orchid in there or other open root plant to soak in moisture :) plastidip spray anything that might go zap if it connects to something else via an unforunate splash.

Antios 1 point 11 months ago

Thanks a bunch mate!

Other thing you can do is grow strawberries since the plant is bare root. :)

GoodGamingPC submitter 22 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

That's a really good idea, a straw mat with strawberries growing would be amazing

Antios 2 points 11 months ago

Start a farm with your computer lmao

GoodGamingPC submitter 22 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

next step is casemod herb garden :P

ewhac 1 Build 1 point 11 months ago

If those are real plants, I hope you have some sort of moisture/humidity management in place. Electronics as a rule don't react well to water condensing on their connections.

That said...

AMAZING!

iron_overcast 1 Build 1 point 11 months ago

I'm just in aww at this build!!! Amazing job! +1

KeeweeComp 1 point 11 months ago

I'm assuming it runs, does it function well? How are the temps? I only ask because I'm a little worried about buildup in the loop because it's open, but if you've got a filter in there I feel a little better about it. Otherwise it looks phenomenal! +1 I smell a feature

GoodGamingPC submitter 22 Builds 2 points 11 months ago

running well still a couple of days in :) i've sloped the res now and it cuts down the air bubbles when running with water level (air bubble burn test hit 76 degrees). Started working on new res filter guard, pretty cool made from coke cap, will finish when I get back from taipei and post new pics :)

KeeweeComp 1 point 11 months ago

Awesome :D Best of luck!
