May grab a delid kit for my i7 6700k and see if I can coax 4.9 or 5.0 out of it , I can boot 4.9 but I can't cool it enough to test it lol

DTUOHY96 2 points 23 months ago

I've made a similar build (1080 instead of 1080ti and H440 instead of S340) and this post has made me so much more excited for it. I dont know whether to compliment you on how epic that looks or curse you for making me want to spend more money xD

so nice I image it looks more red in real life? or is it really more orange, because Im getting the same ram for a r/b build

nitrodragon submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

More red irl, seems to be the trend that cameras see it more as orange but it is a solid red.

You, my friend, were not #$@#ing around when you built this thing. people always complain about going with "beast". in this case...I think its pretty much the perfect name! +juan

ImperiousBattlestar 1 point 23 months ago

A beast that seeks colors of red?

Wait a second...

...

"The Cerberus" is what I'm calling it now!

Is it really worth to remove the headspreader from the i7-7700K ?

LeMMingSlayeR 22 Builds 2 points 23 months ago

Most reviews after delidding claim an average 20c drop in temps with the 7700k. Intel has been using inferior thermal compounds since Sandy Bridge, and the 7700k really pronounces this.

nitrodragon submitter 1 Build 2 points 23 months ago

Its not really the TIM thats the issue, its the tiny gap that the adhesive creates around the IHS when it drys, about a sheet of paper thin. A user tested this with a paper shim and multiple thermal compound replacments the they only made about 3-5c diffrence and some even increased in temps. (this was with a haswell chip i believe)

kwidzin 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Damn good build! No issues between Kraken and the ram slots?

nitrodragon submitter 1 Build 2 points 22 months ago

Thanks! And none at all!

Shift831 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Love the build but is there no exhaust fan or did u take it off for pics? Either way I loooove the aesthetic of this and you just convinced me to go for a strix card rather than a Gaming X card! +1 is not enough.

nitrodragon submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Thanks! Has a top exhaust, didnt want to cover the maximus logo.

Bigboi2828 1 point 20 months ago

How much power does that thing draw? Im going for a 1700 1080Ti and im thinking going with the same PSU

nitrodragon submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

Sorry for the late response, oced to 5ghz and gpu at 2GHz it pulls around 500-550w IIRC

Devhound 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

How are your temps?

nitrodragon submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

25-30idle no more than 75 under full load
