Description

Well this was a upgrade to a PC I built in march 2017 that I never published. Originally had a Intel Xeon E3 1226-V3 processor in it. Not a bad processor but it was bottle necking my GTX 1070, so I decided to upgrade the processor. I wanted the best one I could get with out having to have to upgrade motherboard and ram with the prices or ram being so high recently, and I already had 32 gigabytes of it anyway. And graphic's card's way overpriced! So the Intel - Core i7-4790K 4GHz Quad-Core Processor. was just about the best one I could get. Very expensive though. But wow it's worth it! Paired with the 1070 it was a perfect fit, with no bottleneck and paired with a 1080 there would be one. So gaming and streaming at 1080p this was all that was needed. I have no need for 4K any time soon.

CASE- Silverstone - GD09B HTPC Case. Seems like everything I do in life is a like a challenge to me this was the perfect fit. Great looking case, but what a pain in neck to build in. There's like no room for cable management in here so I had to improvise a little. Get out the Dremel! Some cuts to front of the case really worked for me as this allowed me to tuck some cables away. See the picture's. The motherboard placement of the HD audio connector was a bad place for that and I was not going to run a cable between two Graphic's cards like that so I cut that little hole in the case to reroute that cable. Worked out great. Anyway the case has great air flow with the three 120 mm case fan's and the two 80 mm fan's in the rear so thermal's are no problem here.

CPU COOLER- Noctua - NH-L9i 33.8 CFM CPU Cooler. Best Air cooler ever period!

THERMAL PASTE- Arctic Silver - 5 High-Density Poly-synthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste. Had great reviews so I went with that.

MOTHERBOARD- ASRock - Z87 Extreme 4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard. Other than the placement of the HD Audio connector really great. You can overclock with it, control fan speed's and just very easy to use and understand even for a beginner. Nice Bios.

MEMORY- G.Skill - Ripjaws X Series 32 GB DDR3-2133 Memory. The highest speed the motherboard would take. 32 GB's way more than I will probably ever use or need but that's what I got. Might as well max out on it. It does the job.

STORAGE- Western Digital - Blue 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive. Boot drive. SanDisk - Ultra 3D 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive used for Steam games. Seagate - Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive used for mass media of course.

VIDEO CARD- Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Mini ITX OC Video Card. 1080P Gaming is all I can say. Small but very powerful. MSI - GeForce GTX 950 2GB Video Card used to power second monitor.

POWER SUPPLY- EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply. Way too much for this case without more stronger graphics card's. I should have gone with a semi-modular PSU. and you should too. Live and learn. It was a bad choice. No problems with it however.

OPTICAL DRIVE- LG - UH12NS30 Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer. It plays Blu Ray. Nuff said!

OPERATING SYSTEM- Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit. I finally upgraded from Windows 7 and I was glad I did. I love it!

CASE FANS- They do what they are supposed to do witch is keep thing's cool. Quiet too.

So after all that the rest is self explanatory. Let me just say Im realy happy with this build and I even did a similar build for my sister with a FX 8350. So thank's for reading and I hope my build help's with your's.

Happy gaming!!!

Part Reviews

CPU

Still doing well in 2018. Runs hot. Need good cooler for this one.

CPU Cooler

Best Air cooler ever period. Works great with HTPC builds.

Thermal Compound

Had great reviews so I went with that.

Motherboard

Other than the placement of the HD Audio connector really great. You can overclock with it, control fan speed's and just very easy to use and understand even for a beginner. Nice Bios.

Storage

Loud and slow, lots of space though.

Video Card

Perfect for 1080p gaming. Is very quiet.

Case

I love the looks, but hard to build in. Forget about how it looks inside because you'r not going to see it anyway. It's what on the outside that counts with this one. It has very good airflow for cooling though. Bonus points for the dust filters. They really help with keeping the dust down to minimum.

Power Supply

Way too much power for this case without more stronger graphics card's. I should have gone with a semi-modular PSU for a build in this case and you should too. Live and learn. It was a bad choice. No problems with it however.

Optical Drive

It plays Blu Ray. But you have to purchase software to do it. VLC works sometimes and Media Player Classic does also. But really you'r going to need proper software. I didn't know that when I bought it. Had I known I would't have got it.

Operating System

I'm really glad I upgraded to it.It just works really well.

Case Fan

Kind of loud at full speed. But you can control the speeds of them to quiet them down if your motherboard will allow it.

Case Fan

Very nice and quiet. They are perfect for the Silver Stone HTPC case's.

Monitor

Standard PC monitor.

Custom

Better options out there. I feel like I have to speak directly into it.

Custom

Best controller I have ever used. So smooth.

Custom

Not as smooth as the Xbox One Controller but it gets the job done.

Custom

Does what it supposed to do.

Custom

Driver issues were a huge problem on Windows 7. Works very well on Windows 10.

Custom

Charges battery in about 10 minutes. Looks nice next to you'r build. Batteries hold a charge for about 8 hrs.

Custom

Got them for when I pay the PlayStation 2 Emulator PCSX2 Smoother than the Xbox controller.

Custom

Charges battery in about 10 minutes. Looks nice next to you'r build. Batteries hold a charge for about 8 hrs.

Wow that cpu is quite pricy, it would’ve been better to get it on ebay and not new. Since when buying an older processor new it is bound to be more expensive than it should be.

Yeah I could have got the CPU cheaper. But I was not going to take a chance with a used CPU.
