Description

This is my first build in quite some time... about 10 years.

Let me know if you would change anything. I was trying to keep the build under 1k and was successful.

I will most likely at some point run crossfire and may have to upgrade the PSU (I chose this PSU because there was a $20 off rebate and all the great reviews.)

This will be mainly for gaming and my wife's school work and photo editing.

Currently running Windows 10 beta... figured no reason to buy windows just to re-install when 10 comes out.

Tested on 3DMark11 Fire Strike and scored 6000, I would like to get up to around 7000. GPU and Physics scores were great right around 7000 but combined score was only 3000 any recommendations?

Flip your front fans around, it's better to have them taking in air rather than exhausting it

Agreed. Front as intake since that case comes with a filter, back/top as exhaust will really help that cooler breathe easy and will probably drop your temps a couple degrees.

Yes I did do that already I realized I put them backwards when I turned it on the first time lol

OK, if the fans are only taking air, how will any of it get out? That's the entire point of the fan system.

He is saying use the front fans as intakes and the top and rear as outputs

probably get the NZXT H440, and get it white to match the build

why would he get the H440??? He already got the S340. In my opinion i like the S340 better in looks, but the H440 has more upgradeablity and is bigger but with less airflow.

For gaming I would get a different monitor. I recommend the BenQ XL Series XL2411Z 24-Inch LED Monitor. It has all the bells and whistles and everything you'd want in a gaming monitor. 1ms GTG, 1080p, TN Panel, 144mhz. If you can't spend that much (279 on amazon) then the BenQ Gaming Monitor RL2455HM is a next best thing. It's 60mhz, 1ms GTG with similar bells and whistles.

For standard HDD Storage I always go with Western Digital WD Blue 1TB 6Bg/s 7200RPM WD10EZEX. I used to be a big fan of Seagate Barracuda but I've had one too many die on me and have yet to have any issues with the WD Blue drives.

Additionally if you're looking to expand into SSD, the Samsung 850 EVO are under .50/GB 500GB is running around 210, 1TB around 400, 240GB 120 and 120GB around 80. Prices will vary depending on where you get it from but they are very nice drives and unless rw are a big issue for you, you'd likely not notice the different between the 850 EVO and the 850 PRO. Just be sure to plug them into the 6GB/s sata connection.

Otherwise very solid build. Looks amazing. Great job :)

I feel you should have gotten a 4460, h97 mobo stock cooler and used that money on a gtx 970. Of course you would have to spend a bit more but you would get much better performance especially on gpu intensive games.

That would make the budget over 1k, he wanted under 1k.

I said he would have to spend a bit more.

My bad, sorry.

Yeah I could have done that I looked at the 970 but I could have gotten two 280s for pretty much the price of one 970 and I believe it would outperform the 970.

Most people compare the 970 to crossfire r9 280x so actually 970 would perform better

  • 1 point

At least get a 960 and i dont know if you 520w psu would handle 2 280s

  • 1 point

No it wont but I mentioned above I would be replacing the PSU if I decide to go with crossfire.

Also someone got similar 3d mark fire strike with a core 2 quad q6600 and a hd 7950 (near performance of 270x-280 as 270 and 270x are re-badges of 7870 and 280 and 280x are 7970)

r9 280 have really bad power efficiency as they are hd 7000 cards.

You shouldn't use a usb wifi adapter:/

+1 from me. love the S340 only suggestions are to get an SSD. Trust me the difference is unbelievable. I will never go back to HDD solo. also plug your mic and headphones in the back of the motherboard for a cleaner look

Yeah this was just initial placement for setup and stuff. I am going to move everything to the ground and route all the cables nice and neat. I will upload some more photos once I get everything situated.
