I will be using this rig mainly to keep my *** out of the bars for a while. And also gaming. Probably a lot of gaming. Maybe some other stuff. Ok definitely some other stuff. Anyway on to the parts.
CPU: I7-4770k. It's an I7. It's new. It was on sale for $250. Can't beat that price.
MOBO: Asus Z87 Sabertooth. Have you seen this board? It's sexy as hell. The only board that rivals it's looks is the Maximus VI Formula. Aside from that the thermal armor back plate makes this board solid. The armor on top is as functional as it is beautiful. It has fans to cool the VRMs and dust shields for every, I mean every socket. It's big, black, and badass.
CPU COOLER: H100i. Solid AIO closed loop cooler. Besides the case I picked for this build has a cpu cooler max height of 155mm. Not many good air solutions out there at that size. And the case was designed to support it.
RAM: 8GB (2x4GB) Vengeance @ 1600 MHz. Trusted and reliable memory. 8 gigs is plenty for now too.
STORAGE: 120GB Crucial M500 SSD. Got it for under $70. More than big enough to be a boot drive. WD 1TB HDD. Plenty of space to be a mass storage drive. For now at least.
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 780 GHz Edition. Has a factory overclock the puts its performance between 5 - 10 percent under the reference GTX 780ti for $200 less. Yep. I'm gonna get another one.
CASE: Thermaltake Urban T31. This case is amazing. It's sleek and classy. Comes with a windowed side panel and the other side panel is pushed out to help with cable management. The black anodized brushed aluminum door on the front is icing on the cake. Like the box said; simple and elegant. Oh yeah, it has a hot swap bay on top which will be getting plenty of use in the not too distant future.
POWER SUPPLY: XFX 850w Pro series Black Edition. Rated a tier 1 for its Seasonic MK3 core. Fully modular. Got the 850 so I can run another GTX 780 in the future.
The rest of the stuff is pretty basic. DVD burner, couple of extra case fans, Windows 8.1, some LEDs, but those are coming from China so it'll take like a month to get them here.
I'm gonna try my hand at overclocking the CPU, GPU and RAM. I'll update this with some final numbers as soon as I get around to it.
One last thing. This is my first build so my cable management is a bit sloppy.
The lights have arrived. Wasn't too hard to get them all wired up and I am thoroughly pleased with the end result. I did my best with the camera on my phone to capture the awesomeness that sits in front of me. Enjoy.
Got the temps in check, finally. Slapped some Arctic 5 Silver under the water block to start and moved the fans around a bit. Now my idle temp is a chilly 26C and my max temp after a 6 hour gaming session is 59C. I can live with that.
Downloaded 3DMark 11 and found out the free version is gimped to hell. My Performance Preset score is posted. I would like to see what my other scores would be but I am not paying a penny for benchmarking.
So that's it. I might update this again in the future. Perhaps when a get another GTX 780 GHz Edition. Who am I kidding. I will most definitely post more pics when I go SLI in this beast.
Thanks everyone for the up votes and the comments. And thank you PC Part Picker for helping plan this build with this kick *** site.
