Description

I finally built this computer after many years of anticipation. I have helped all my roommates build multiple computers but could never pull the trigger on my own. After paying off a couple large outstanding debts I finally was is a position to justify this glorious computer.

Although this is not the fastest, highest storage, or cheapest build out there I find it has an excellent balance of the three. I will also plan on growing into this computer over the next few years with additional storage and maybe even a sli setup who knows. I found and purchased all items on Amazon with my roommate Prime account, and plan on moving my old laptops hard drive to the new rig. After 6 long years of service I am happily retiring my first computer that i purchased in high school. It severed it purpose well and was even able to play Starcraft II on its Intel i3 330m.

I started my build with the GTX 970 G1 from Gigabyte and paired it with a very capable i5-4690k which work wonders together. From there everything just fell into place. I found a nice MSI motherboard that had the features i wanted and a Phanteks cooler to match. I went with 8 GB corsair vengeance RAM because it looks nice and goes well with the build. I also don't plan on doing anything more demanding then some games and believe 8 Gb will be more then enough. The case was the largest compromise in the build. I had intended on the NZXT S340 but it was not Prime eligible cost $20 more for the cheap one and nearly double for the blue one I wanted. When it came to storage I went light because I only plan on playing a couple games initially and it is incredibly easy to add more down the road. I chose the Samsung 850 because it caries an excellent price and is one of the strongest performers in its category. The only constraints i had when buying a power supply was semi modular with some overhead. The Corsair 600W fit the bill and had great reviews and it is working great so far.

Brilliant build, but the cup of tea in the photo is making me nervous, especially since your case is beneath it and has an open vent in the top. I recently fried a laptop with a spilt cup of tea. It's no joke.

Your build looks great! How you liking that Phanteks cooler? Was it pretty easy to install? One thing, i believe your 200R is this one, not the one you have listed :P https://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-case-cc9011041ww

Congrats on the build! :D

i know this post is kinda old but how do you like it? im planning on building a pc practically identical to this one. i5-4690k, GTX 970 ( i dont understand the difference between all of the 970s) and a corsair 200r or 300r. Im just wondering if it was easy to install your motherboard and if it is a good motherboard or not since im a first time builder and dont know much about particular motherboards. And im also wondering if the case has good ventilation and if it has any fans already in it?
