Description

Here's my first PC build!

The build was a lot of fun, and I lucked out by not having any DOA parts. The only issue I had came when I attempted to install the 8-pin VGA Bitfenix Alchemy extension; after a couple of hours, and some bloody fingers later, it finally snapped together. Also please ignore the placement of the 8-pin CPU cable, I've fixed it since I took that picture with flash, as it was blocking the top 200mm fan (see darker photos).

UPDATE December 9th, 2013 - The CPU Cooler arrived in the mail today, and it's great!

Did some overclocking of the CPU / GPU, here are my settings:

i7-4470k: 4.5GHz @ 1.2v GTX780: Core = +130, Mem = +230

Please see the photos for Benchmark results, and the statistics at the side for temperature results! :)

I wonder if the tears could fix a broken part. Huhh… Your girlfriend would understand that lol. nice build!

I see what you did there!

case looks sick! how hard is cable management in it?

Silarial submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

Thanks! :D There is a surprising amount of room in the rear of the case, so cable management wasn't that bad. I may upload a pic when I put my cooler in :) It's not as neat as I would've liked it to be, but due to the extra length of the extensions, I had to do some crazy spreading to get it all to fit :)

cool build, good cable management, looks sick with the blue fans and white case! +1

Silarial submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

Thank you very much :D Neat cables were really important to me, so I tried my best :)

Awesome build. First time seeing that case and I like it! How fast were you able to get that ram running?

Silarial submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

Thanks! :) I was able to crank the ram up to 2133Mhz no problem :) It's running right now pretty stable! I also really liked the case and I've seen very few builds using it, so I figured I'd try something different. The only qualms I had with it, were that it advertised with a blue LED logo and blue LED 200mm fans in the front and top, but this was not the case. It comes with one red LED 200mm in the top, a red LED logo in the front, and no way to disconnect the top fan to replace it without breaking the fan.

This will look awesome with the dark rock in there

Silarial submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

Thanks :D I'm really excited for that. I should have pics up with that by next Wednesday at the latest hopefully!

Jared364 2 points 48 months ago

If I'm not mistaken the Dark Rock 2 is a massive CPU fan cooling system! Or I may be confused with the other Be Quiet fan solutions... Either way great system you got and loving the Case, stuck between doing a BitFenix Prodigy Case or a Cooler Master 130 for an mITX build i have as a saved plan. +1 for Harry Potter reference and happy lady friend (my lady is starting to accept my desire for the build I have planned in January)

Silarial submitter 2 Builds 2 points 48 months ago

You are very correct! I've uploaded some new photos which showcase just how large that cooler is inside of the case. It's a behemoth! Best of luck with your build, and thank you for the feedback! :D Personally I liked the Prodigy for mITX, but if you're concerned with chassis size at all, keep in mind that it's roughly the size of an mATX case :)

Jared364 1 point 48 months ago

Yea looks like a huge amount of space, and I love the color choices, would probably go with Green though! ("THERES SO MUCH MORE ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES!!!!" ~Step Brothers) Yeah, Its a tough call for me! love the idea of a small form factor I can easily pack up like the Cooler Master Elite 130, but I love the sexy handles on the Prodigy despite its a tad bit larger size... decisions decisions!

Silarial submitter 2 Builds 2 points 48 months ago

Go with a beautiful green prodigy, you won't regret it! :) just make sure you get a blower style card. It won't clock as high, but that way you won't have excess hot air with the lack of room. :) Please come back and post a link to your build once you finish!

Great build, love that case.

I, personally, would have gotten a Samsung 840 SSD. So yeah.

I have never heard of that CPU cooler, is it any good?

Silarial submitter 2 Builds 2 points 48 months ago

The cooler works great! According to some benchmarks it's better than the Noctua NH-D14. It's super quiet, and keeps me below 80 degrees at 4.5Ghz. I went with the Crucial SSD simply because of the sale price :) The Samsung ones are a lot nicer, I just wanted to cut some costs and got a great deal on this one.

Ah, money, ruining our pleasure since the dawn of time...

BFBCIE2 1 point 45 months ago

How does the cpu cooler work with the ram? Is there enough room above above the ram for the cooler fan to fit comfortably?

Silarial submitter 2 Builds 1 point 44 months ago

There is still lots of clearance between the CPU Cooler and the RAM :)

BFBCIE2 1 point 44 months ago

Could you possibly provide a picture of the clearance between the cooler and the ram? It would help me out A LOT as I'm debating between this and the corsair h100i. Or if you can't do that maybe a measurement of the clearance? Thanks for the reply :)

Silarial submitter 2 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

Hey! Sorry I just saw this, do you still need a picture of this? :)

aludka 1 Build 1 point 47 months ago

I like the build. I was just checking out others that used the same cooler. +1

Silarial submitter 2 Builds 1 point 46 months ago

Thanks! I highly recommend the cooler, I've had no complaints. My PC is located right beside me and it's incredibly silent

coolguy562 2 Builds 1 point 40 months ago

Can you link where you got the alchemy cables? I found the website but not where to buy. Thanks!

Silarial submitter 2 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

I don't think we're allowed to link on here, but I got mine from FrozenCPU! they came fairly quickly too! Google FrozenCPU bitfenix alchemy multi sleeved" :) Hope this helps!!

coolguy562 2 Builds 2 points 37 months ago

Yaaa.... That's where I found and ordered them about a month ago they arrived in 3 days whcih was nice.
