Description

Hello! Im James, and am currently 12 years old. This is my first computer build, and I am very happy that it works! I actually built this computer a month or so ago, but not until now have I set up my setup in a way I find aesthetically pleasing, as well as good space for both monitors, place for a clear signal for my wireless mouse, as well as the WiFi adaptor being in a area that isn't a dead spot.

I use this computer for mainly desktop use, including school, youtube, and hosting my new website. I will irobably end up gaming in the future once I get a graphics card

Also, special thanks to my aunt for giving me her old desktop from 2003, which sadly was broken, but she also gave me the monitor that was with it, which has surprisingly decent resolution, response time, yet the color seems to have a yellow overtone. Also, the monitor in the parts list is actually made by AOC, but I couldn't find it in the index of PCPP parts, so I chose this one that had similar specs.

In addition, lots of thanks to Simeon, for helping me with choosing the parts and suggesting possible future upgrades that I could do

I payed for this computer all out of my pocket, so I made it as cheap as I could go without buying an explosive PSU

I also made this computer very upgrade friendly, as I will want to upgrade my computer when I find the money, and will probably take this upgrade path 1. 1TB Hard Drive 2. Graphics Card: probably one of AMD's new cards in the 100-150 dollar bracket 3. Better Looking Case 4. 212 EVO cooler for a high overclock on my pentium 5. Better monitor to replace the one from my aunt 6. More RAM

Note All of these upgrades do not need me to replace my motherboard

Part Reviews

CPU

This. Is Amazing. This has the power of a has well core i5 or i7, but it just has 2 threads. I'll overclock it once I get a graphics card.

Motherboard

I got this board at a deal on newegg with a $15 rebate. This board is great. Has 4 slots for ram, decent audio, usb 3, and pci-e x16 3.0

Memory

Ram is ram. Ram is good. Ram is happy. End of story

Storage

This SSD is incredibly fast. I have used a computer with an expensive samsung 850 EVO SSD, and i can't notice the difference. Wish it had more storage, though.

850 EVO ARE FOR EMO

Power Supply

Great. All I can say. Wish it was modular, but what could i expect for a 20 dollar PSU. Got it on a deal at Newegg. Before I saw the deal, I was thinking of getting a logigsys PSU... if that corsair rebate wasn't there, my house would be on fire right now.

Wireless Network Adapter

Good, but if you are in any kind of dead spot, it will work terribly.

Monitor

The one I have is actually by AOC, but the look is similar. The monitor isn't bad, but the color correctness is terrible. Pandora looks yellow on it, but it is still better than only having one monitor. I guess this monitor must of been good in 2003 when my aunt got it.

Monitor

Stunning. Cant tell the difference between this and a 1080p monitor. All the good features, can adjust the angle as well. Color correctness is on point.

Keyboard

Elegant, simple, and has a nice minimalist look. Has all the keys, but is rather loud.

12 years old

Still has better grammar than some of the adults on here

Not sure if I should congratulate you or just be angry at humanity? Both, definitely both.

Anyway, that is a pretty good build. I think you did an excellent job budgeting, and once you slap a GPU on it, it should game pretty well. The RX 470 4GB is supposed to be around $150 and will be better than the R9 380X. Hopefully you can get an after market AIB version overclocked to be closer to the 970.

Thanks! I'm going to my neighbor's house tomorrow to do some gardening so I can hopefully get my hands on one of those new cards!

They're a little more than $150 but I would recommend the RX480 or the GTX970. They range from $200-$270 new

yeah, thanks. I've heard that nvidia is getting scared and is gonna lower their prices on the 970 and 960, so I'm gonna watch it unfold

Might I suggest that you don't have to wait to game until you get a graphics card? There are a lot of great games you can easily run on that machine that are a lot of fun. When I was your age I played the original Fallout games and they blew my mind.

I found the cd code to my old game of SIM CITY! Yes! I love playing agar.io, diep.io, and slither.io... ive been also looking around on free steam games. But how did you play fallout with onboard graphics?

I'm talking about the original two Fallout games. They should be available on Steam and GOG, and maybe for free somewhere. In any case, they would probably only cost a few bucks and they will run on basically anything.

There are a lot of other great ones too - Baldur's Gate 1+2, Planescape: Torment, Ultima Underworld, Unreal Tournament, The Curse of Monkey Island games etc. All of those games would run on your computer and they would also all be cheap or free.

Oh, and if you ever save up the dosh, this would be a really excellent upgrade to your CPU: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/psR48d/intel-cpu-bx80646e31231v3

You would basically jump from Pentium up to i7 level performance.

I'd love to see an update to this build if you've made any notable upgrades/improvements over the last 2 years.

You should take some pics of the inside of your PC kiddo. Also those two monitors are so unaligned, you should find a simetric way to arrange them or use only one of them.

Oh, oh! Maybe they could use a Monopoly box to raise their Acer monitor? I remember someone else used a Monopoly box to raise their own monitor. ;)
Not that it matters to me to be honest here. About those two monitors, it would be tricky to to make completely different monitors be exactly aligned.

Haha, i like monopoly boxes, but how about I take all of my family's MacBooks, hot glue them together, and rest my acer monitor on those.

Me too about the monopoly boxes. Oh, that would be interesting to see! A very interesting idea. :)

i'll try it out, but i think it might void the warranty on the macs ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I'm aware that those two monitors are quite different, but still, he could find a sweet spot of alignment between the two. Maybe one on top of the other, or on the center of any side...I mean, he won't get a perfect dual monitor alignment, but at least something nicer than the way he is using them. Kiddo, just look for some monitor stands, risers, adjustable mechanical mounting arms, you should get some cheap stuff online that can get the work done.

Edit: Please don't use a monopoly box :\

True about the options to adjust a monitor's stand if it's able to or a possible mounting format. And I was joking about the Monopoly box. I am not exactly good at making humor when it comes to these posts. Though, I am not lying about the Monopoly box being used to raise a monitor either. Just someone else has done it in the past which was interesting at the time.

I knew it was a joke, it had to be XD...even though I'm pretty sure you are speaking the truth about some guy doing it...lol

sadly, it doesn't adjust ... it works fine for me, though!

Everything in this life costs something :\ however you got a range from $12 to $xxxxx on options to choose...but hey, just leave your monitors as they are,if you don't care. Mine was just an opinion, peace kiddo

Yes, but I would probably rather spend 50 bucks more on a second monitor of the exact price. They are refurbished on best buy for cheap.

I actually did take a ton more pictures, but for some reason they are like 50 mb each and are taking forever to upload. btw, i would like to align the monitors, but I don't really want to saw off the giant stand that the monitor from 2003 is from... it already looks terrible, so i'd rather have it be seen as ugly than seen as tryhard-to make a cheap setup look nice

No, those are pics way too big, use some imaging app to lower that weight and upload them

You know, some people would just say,"good job kid," and leave, but you go out of your way be offensive to a computer build that I am proud of, as of a few months ago, I would have thought I was crazy if I knew I would ever build a computer.

Also, its called a budget build for a reason. I know this isnt the most upgradeable build, but it is the most upgradable practical build. For example if you mean I should get a gaming motherboard with a skylake cpu, than I would of had to drug my family and sell them to the mophia to pay for it all.

I didnt even mean it to be upgradeable until I found the cheap B85 mobo. Also, skylake isnt that much different that haswell... so imma wait until AMD releases their new zen architechture

Also, 32GB of ram is rather unreasonable to ever upgrade to... it is even slim that I will upgrade to 16GB

So... Thanks... I guess

I know It's a bad idea to say the "best" anything around a ton of nerds, because what goes off in their heads is: "i'm going to go out of my way to prove this kid wrong"

BTW... i built the computer already, its not like im going to completely change the platform and build because of you...
