Description

I've recently built a new rig. I originally had my I7-3770k within my old case and motherboard. I ordered a new motherboard and case along with a new power supply and graphics card. I will be ordering a SSD and water cooling (Corsair H100i) later this month.

If you have the money, buy a 1440p monitor, the GPU is going to waste if you don't.

Yeah, I am working on getting a new monitor, but it is early days at the moment for that. At least I will know that everything will run pretty well at 1080p.

How does the 7990 perform?

It performs pretty well. I have tried a few game out, BF4 which runs at pretty much Ultra @ 1080p with around 50-90 fps. It depends on whats happening etc. I can run The Witcher 2 pretty much max too without Ubersampling enabled and get 60-100 fps too. I am however going to be overclocking my CPU once i get water cooling which should increase my FPS.

Overclocking any of the I series CPU's wont increase FPS, they are already fast. The most you will see is like maybe a FPS and that's a maybe. But really only 50-90 fps on BF4? I'm running 7850's CF and I get a average of 94 fps.

Yeah, it varies a lot but my average fps is around 60 fps on most maps.It also depends on which settings you are running on too. I'm pretty sure there is a difference with 3.5 Ghz compared to 4.5 Ghz overclock unless I've been reading some reviews and previews of the I7-3770k on overclocking wrong.

All ultra and at 1200p not that that makes a difference.

How much did you pay for the 7990? Is it loud?

I paid around £359.75 for the 7990. You can hear it but its nowhere near as loud as my previous graphics card which was a (MSI Radeon HD 6950 2gb). I find it pretty quiet within my current case.

you should consider a 1440p+ monitor, wasted potential with that gpu at 1080p

Yeah i agree. I will get a 1440p+ monitor sometime in the future. Thanks.

I have a 7990 but the non jet engine/reference and it is quieter than my old 9800gt

Yeah and it's probably a huge improvement over the 9800gt too. I used to have a 6950 2gb and I see a large improvement.
