Description

This build is for my wife. She picked this Mastercase 5 piece of muscle gear out from a bunch of tiny and cute itx and m-atx cases herself LOL. My budget is $3000 and she will use this PC on daily entertainments and video streams, perhaps some rendering and some common 3D games like the incoming fallout 4. The color theme is black and white, with some silver on peripherals.

CPU

Definitely I would like to pick the latest main-stream flagship skylake i7-6700k, enjoying the benefits of 14nm microarchitecture as well as DDR4 memory support.

Motherboard

The black and white themed MSI Z170 Krait makes a perfect basement of all the treasured components. It is equipped with latest Z170 chipset, not to mention its metal-reinforced PCI-E slots and boosted DDR4 links.

Memory

At first I chose the GALAXY HOF DDR4 modules but unfortunately their launch were delayed. As a fallback, I picked some old good Corsair dominator platinum modules - they make a perfect match to all builds.

Storage

The latest data-center-nature Intel 750 PCI-E SSD is my option. In spite of its overwhelming performance, I found it takes a bit longer to boot than a SATA SSD. That is due to its PCI-E interface, since PCI-E devices do take more time to initialize than SATA devices. Perhaps replacing it with a high-end SATA SSD will be a smarter choice.

Video Card

The pure-white Galaxy HOF 970, with a metal back plate, will sure be able to deliver more than enough graphic power to handle most 3D games without a problem while decorating the case with its LED light.

Case

The highly modular CoolerMaster Mastercase 5 Pro is picked by my wife, as mentioned. It gives me great convenience on assembly. Really good case.

Cooling

The AIO cooler from CoolerMaster matches the case perfectly, and gives a satisfying CPU temperature result. Also, its white led illuminates the interior, as well as the ones from memory modules and the graphic card.

PSU

Full modular RM-650 from corsair, combined with customized pure white cable, make the interior of the case not only neat but also shiny.

Peripherals

Curved 21:9 monitor from LG, limited edition mouse Leetgion Hellion, and Cherry MX Board 6.0 - These silver and black gears shines like moon light on the desk, you just can't help to sit before the desk and grab the mouse :)

Final Thoughts

After some simple tweaking I made it stable at 4.6GHz CPU/3000MHz RAM. The Cinebench R15 score reaches 1000 point, with a crazy 2000M/1000M reading/writing speed. The machine is unbelievable quite, powerful enough and good-looking. Both my wife and I are satisfied with it. As I'm insisting on black and white building theme like many of you, so I wish the manufactures can bring us more and more components in black and white.

Thank you for reading this.

Nice build. Very clean tuxedo. My only beef with that motherboard is it's SLI or extra hard drives. But it looks like that won't be an issue with your build context.

Klauth submitter 2 Builds 1 point 41 months ago

Yes since I'm using PCI-E SSD and I don't have a bunch of HDD for it so it wouldn't be a problem that this motherboard don't have horizontal SATA ports.

Excellent Cable management, nice clean build. Awesome setup.

The only thing I wanna pick on, get some spacers for that PCI-E cable. And it's a 10/10.

Mine is an x79 i7-3820 Geforce 670 SLI build 3+ years old, which can beat hers in 3D marks by a little, but about 150 scores lower in Cinebench. And I can't make into her league in drive tests since I'm using data ssd :P
