Description

This mini PC will be my gaming rig in the living room. Eventually planning to have it as a VR box. I saw shipping times for the headsets are well into the summer and also noticed Pascal then Polaris video cards should be coming out soon. So I figure I can wait and the Intel integrated video isnt too bad for now. Been running CS-GO smooth enough frame rate. I'll have to find a way to see the actual numbers.

I chose the non-K CPU since it has a lower TDP and trying to keep things cool in this mini case. When I have time later I'll try a little overclocking. There seemed to be some room in the temps and saw this guide for overclocking non-k CPU http://overclocking.guide/asus-z170-non-k-overclocking-guide/

Problems: -When cleaning up the cables, I wasn't able to unplug the USB3 header. Eventually had to take a knife to pry some clearance from the locking tabs.

-The Silverstone 500W SX500-LG PSU was fine till its cheapo sleeve bearing fan kicked in. Made an annoying rattling / ticking noise. Read that many other people have the same issue. I decided to void the warranty and open up the PSU. I'm glad I did, I put a few drops of 3-in-1 oil in it, sealed it up and so far the noise has been dramatically reduced! Got the idea from this video https://youtu.be/97Se9x0Kxc0

You bought a locked SKU yet you buy a Z170 motherboard that doesn't make any sense.
