Description

Visual Effects Production. From runtime with Unity or Unreal, to Rendered with C4D, Houdini and Octane.

Build went rather smoothly, until i tried to cache my first sim and CPU quicky hit upwards of 97, fans werent accelerating under the load. A little over a day of re-securing cables and headers, switching fan control from Auto to Voltage in Bios is what did the trick.

For the 3970X, especially for render workloads, a Asetek AIO is not enough. You need a Swiftech Drive X3 with a EK Velocity sTRX4 block:

Thanks for this tip, I am actually looking for other coolers (ordered thermaltakes aio TR4 edition to try soon). Kraken is keeping the the CPU at or under 70 under heavy load...when it works. Having problems with the software so looking for alternatives, pwm solutions preferably.

Hello.

Strong Build. So what cooling solution would you say is ideal for the new 3970X to keep temps under 80c?

Check my build. :) Did not go over 72c running 100% load for 30 minutes. https://pcpartpicker.com/b/kncYcf

I’ve had no issue keeping it under 80 with the kraken when the fans are actually responding to CPU temps, but NZXT CAM software keeps setting fans at idle and cpu will overheat so I’m exploring other options. Think as long as you have a 360mm aio should be in decent shape.

By the time I could afford this I would be dead.

32 cores in the CPU. OMG! Congratulations!! I'm at 8 now, dreaming of 16 or 32 in a few years. Nice pics. Thanks for posting. Thumbs up from me!

How would this build perform for video editing on DaVinci and Premier?

Hey, going for the exact same build but I want to fit 4x2080Ti Founders Air Cooled in there. I know that MB allows for that, but can you confirm it with your experience? Sick build :) Thanks in advance!

I dont know much about the Founders size, but ya i think theyd have to be unusually large to not be able to fit 4 given the ample even spacing on this MB, the plan to scale to 4x is one of the reasons i got this CPU and MB.

Hello I am looking to build a new workstation for rendering and was curious to how your build is working out for you. did you get a new cooler for the cpu?

I actually haven’t done a ton of rendering on it yet but Octane has been flying when I do, have spent most of my time in Houdini and simulation caching times are pretty incredible, as are reading caches back from that M2.

NZXT has another cooler on the way so fingers crossed it holds up.
