Description

After holding onto my last build from 2009, I decided it was time for a new build. The build went very well, no issues with any components. Still gaming on a 1080p monitor, but I am looking to pick up a 27" 2k or a 34" wide 2k monitor in the near future, still not sure what to get. Will update as I begin to break it in.

Update 1/27/16 Used the Asus Z170 easy overclock feature to bump the speed up to 4.63Ghz. X264 stability test went great, load CPU temps topped out at around 79.0c.

Part Reviews

CPU

Great CPU, OC'd to 4.63 with ease, very stable.

CPU Cooler

Seems to do a great job keeping my 6700k cool. As my first water cooled unit I am very happy with how quiet it runs.

Motherboard

Very happy with this board, looks great and has all the features I was looking for. No problems so far, happy with the purchase.

Video Card

Such a great card, I love how quiet it runs, keeps temps real low. Highly recommend spending the extra cash if you are looking for a 980 ti.

Case

This is a pretty cool case, it's well build, lots of room inside, paint looks great, good airflow, one of the better cases I have used. One problem I did have is one of the USB 3.0 ports in the front doesn't seem to work, not a huge issue because I have plenty of them in the back, but would be nice to have both working. One other problem people might have is the weight, very heavy when empty; but it comes with a great carrying handle on top. Not a real issue to me, but some might look for something lighter.

Nice job. Very similar to one I want to build. I have one question tho, why not go for an corsair RMi or HXi? Would have allowed for better power mangement. Also those RAM sticks have an upgrade that puts a light bar (Artic White or cerulean Blue).

Thank you!
Good question. At the time I didn't think much about "which psu should I get?" Looking back the corsair would have been a wise choice; but I can say I am happy with the G2 for now. I have seen that light bar upgrade, definitely on my radar for a future purchase. Thanks again for the comment!

I am really happy with the card. All games I've run (Insurgency, Verdun, Dirt Rally, Arma 3) play on ultra with no problems. It's the quietest graphics card I've ever owned thanks to the water cooling, which keeps temps low.
Don't have a lot to say about the ram, it works so I'm happy with it.

You've just converted me from a MSI 980ti Lightning to the Sea Hawk for my (first) upcoming build. Thank you!

Hi like the build. I've the same case, CPU & MOBO as you ~ Curious of temps with this cooler? I've been looking at a few combos {case/cpu/mobo} trying to find the bast cooling option. Do you run that cooler with the top dust filter removed? Is this the only placement for that rad? Did you reverse the front fans to exhaust or are all fans intake? Sry about the plethora of questions, just trying to give myself an informed cooling option based on real applications such as yours. Thanks.

Thank you! I do not, currently on ios. From what I have read the light can only change from the yellow to off; but I am not positive. The GeForce Experience program lets me turn it on/off, have it flash, etc.., but no color change. Would be nice to have the logo match for sure. I have not OC'd the GPU, while it might be something I will look to do in the future, right now I'm just having fun playing games. Thanks again for the comment.
