Description

It's my nephew's birthday this month and he wanted to replace his Dell Inspiron 15 laptop with a PC that he could game on. My sister asked if she bought all the parts could my son and I build the PC for him...duh, our pleasure. Just need to figure out how to safely ship it to him.

Since he was using his birthday money, he was on a relatively tight budget and still needs to buy all the peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse...). We went AMD FX-6300 to save a bit of money. It will be interesting to see what kind of FPS he can achieve with this budget CPU compared to the slightly more expensive FX-8320 that we used in my son's PC. There was a $40 difference between the FX-8320 and the FX-6300 that we used in this build. Comparing this combination of an FX-6300 with a GTX-950 and our previous build with a FX-8320e and a R9 270, the performance was very similar in CS:GO and BLOPS III.

I think he will really enjoy the improvement over his Dell laptop that was using integrated graphics. In fact, he couldn't even play BLOPS III on his laptop. He was in single digit FPS rates.

Did you have any problems fitting the 212 EVO into the SPEC-02?

Thanks!

I was just about to ask this, I bought one the other day and it wouldn't fit in this exact model.

Damn. I'm considering getting one but not sure. How much space did you need?

I apologize. I used a SPEC-01 not a SPEC-02. I couldn't find SPEC-01 on the list of cases to pick from on the site. I had no issues fitting the EVO 212 in the SPEC-01. I believe the SPEC-02 is slightly larger than the SPEC-01.

Wow. The SPEC-01 supports 150mm coolers, as opposed to the SPEC-02's 157mm. Yet the 212 EVO is 159mm.

I'm not too sure about those dimensions. I have built two systems with a SPEC-01 and an EVO 212. The EVO 212 happens to sit right where the window bulge of the side panel is...maybe that makes a difference. Looking down from the top of the case through the top vent holes, I see about a mm or 2 clearance between the copper pipes of the EVO and the side panel.
