Build

My Beast (FX 8350 paired with R9 280)

by LechnerFlo

Description

At the end of 2014 I decided to build me a pc that is too much overkill for me. Then in January I get all the parts I need for the PC build. I decided long what components i should use, because I had no Know-How.

I was very surprised how fast a custom PC could be built. It took me about 5 hours of building time.

At first i had ordered two Western Digital Green 1,5TB but then a week after I had finished my PC my selfmade Homeserver died. So I bought a Zyxel NSA325 v2. The Problem was that this NAS has only 2 Bays. So I decided to swap the two WD Green 1,5TB drives out of my PC and put them into the Zyxel NSA325 v2. Now I have the three Drives from my died Homeserver in my PC. These three drives are Seagate Pipeline HD 1TB.

The Graphiccard was my hardest decision because I had no idea how much graphic power I need. Now I am very surprised with the power of the Gigabyte R9 280 Windforce. This card is amazing. The power you get for 200€ is amazing. I think I coud have make no better decision. If there is interest, there are some Valley Benchmark Scores.

I think that is enough to konw about my Setup. ;)

Part Reviews

CPU

This Processor is great for overclocking but if you overclock it from 4,2 to 4,8 or 5.0 GHz you need a good cooling solution because it heats very much.

CPU Cooler

This cooling solution is not the best, but it is very good. It keeps my overclocked FX 8350 @4.8GHz on 35°C with 70% fanspeed. The only critic point is that sometimes you hear the pump and that there are very much vibrations if the fans spin at 100%.

Motherboard

This is the best MoBo i have ever had. It looks so sexy and the Features are awsome. It holds the voltage so constant. the only bad thing i have to say is about the audio quality. It is not Eargasm. I think it comes, that the audio pcb is not isolated from the other pcb. but only my thought.

Storage

This drive is very silent and very fast. Transferspeeds about 120MB/s read and 90-100MB/s write.

Case

Oh my God. This is a Midi Tower with so much room for everything you want to do. It is so solid, because it is fully made of steel and with the two handles you could carry your pc around with you. My setup weight about 20kg and the handles are still going to be stable. So it is a good case with mounting options for 7 Fans and up to 6 drives.

Case Fan

All I can say about it is NOCTUA. Noctua is silent and efficient. At 900RPM you are not able to hear them. These fans keep my komponents nice and cool. Thumbs up for Noctua. Austria For the win

Case Fan

Best Fan i have ever had. RPM up to 3000 for the best cooling. and down to about 1600 with voltage regulation and to 700 with PWM. So when i turns with about 700rpm it is almostsilent for me. but this is a subjectiv opinion, keep that in mind.

I was just looking for a review of the motherboard, and it turns out we have almost the same build. The CPU, Motherboard and graphics card (mine is 280X). Great minds think alike!

I don't think those fps are right

LechnerFlo submitter 4 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

Why?

fun7074 1 point 47 months ago

They seem to be very low for the build

LechnerFlo submitter 4 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

But This is what i habe scored. I cant say more about that. For me it is enough

fun7074 2 points 47 months ago

Im not saying its your fault it could, just be wrong

Does the C70 case come with the drive bays and drive cages or do I have to buy them seperately?

LechnerFlo submitter 4 Builds 1 point 43 months ago

The C70 comes with 6 drive bays in two drive cages.

Lukey_Rob97 1 point 43 months ago

How is that graphic card overclock? Did you change the voltage at all? Thanks :)

LechnerFlo submitter 4 Builds 1 point 43 months ago

I havent changed the voltage only set it higher with msi afterburner. i get about 7 fps more in vally benchmark

Lukey_Rob97 1 point 42 months ago

And also, what is your fan curve set at? If you do have a custom one, can you please send a link to a screenshot? Thanks :)

LechnerFlo submitter 4 Builds 1 point 42 months ago

if i can have your email adress, i can send it to you. sorry for the late answer :(

Jtridin 1 Build 1 point 43 months ago

How is the mobo holding up with that overclock?

LechnerFlo submitter 4 Builds 1 point 43 months ago

The heatsinks are getting too hot. so i have selled the board and have bought an asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0 and this is the right for overclocking. i have acived an overclock of about 4950mhz with 1,488V. no temperatures get above 70°C the cpu sits at 62°C. i convert much videos so my pc runs for about 2 weeks and the voltage drops only sometimes to 1,474V and this is really good i think.

Jtridin 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

So the msi board can handle a slight over clock or none at all ?

LechnerFlo submitter 4 Builds 1 point 42 months ago

It handles the overclock to about 4650 very stable. but if i got higher. the heatsinks got so hot that i have to stop it. i have fans that blow onto the heatsinks, but this wasnt even enough. the other thing was that the voltage drops too much so i got a freeze. this was not acceptable. because my pc is turned on for verl long periods. but if you want a overclock to about 4500mhz it should be fine at all. i hope i could help you :)

Jtridin 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

thanks bro

TellySmalls 1 point 41 months ago

Hey I doubt you'll see this anytime soon but i have to know, what is that 5.25 bay in the bottom using? I personally don't want to use my hard drive racks if i don't have to.

LechnerFlo submitter 4 Builds 1 point 41 months ago

search for sharkoon intern multi. then you will find it.

Stjin 1 point 36 months ago

What is the wall mount you're using?

LechnerFlo submitter 4 Builds 1 point 35 months ago

Its s cheap one from HAMA. Costs about 20€.

Stjin 1 point 35 months ago

Thanks :)

Hi I want to know how is the monitor. I recently order my for 230 +20 tax. So Im moving from a 24 inch 1080 to this Sort of 2K one. Have you Try OC it to 75hrz or more. also color accuracy how it was for you?

jardc5 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Nice build! I noticed in your parts review that you were not happy with the audio quality that your mobo provided. Now, I consider myself an audio freak. I love my music loud and powerful and in extremely high quality. So with that said, I recommend to you the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z-SB1500 sound card. (https://pcpartpicker.com/product/HnxfrH/creative-labs-sound-card-70sb150000000) It's the best investment I have ever put into my PC's. You won't be disappointed. I sure wasn't. +1

geogeodude 0 points 47 months ago

I see some areas where you could have spent your money a little more efficiently, but the build is very clean and nice, and the description is solid. This deserves hearty, freshly-baked cookie from me.

Great parts list. Great case very easy to build in. 32GB RAM is overkill. Do you have any more interior photos?

cilvre 6 Builds 4 points 47 months ago

where do you see 32gbs of ram? i only see two g.skill sticks and hes listed 2 x 4gbs in his parts list

Smk54 3 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

He has 8 GB of RAM. He commented that his build is overkill. I commented that 32GB of RAM would be overkill. It's called sarcasm.

cilvre 6 Builds 2 points 47 months ago

it was thrown in with stuff i normally expect to see so thought it was an honest comment, need a /s tag lol

Smk54 3 Builds 2 points 47 months ago

LOL!!

milesknight 2 Builds 2 points 47 months ago

he only has 8 listed and it looks like it looks like hes doing 3d cad of some sort

LechnerFlo submitter 4 Builds 2 points 47 months ago

Yes there are 2x4gb of g.skill ram in there. And a little Bit of 3d cad is needed in our School, so i habe to do some cad also at home

Thanks! Looks good.

HalfLife1MasterRace -2 points 47 months ago

I'm sorry but... $1400 and you have an 8350 and a 280? Just seems a bit off....

MLGComputers 1 Build -3 points 47 months ago

1800 bucks yet no Intel CPU. GG Also you can get a single 3TB seagate drive for around $90

LechnerFlo submitter 4 Builds 4 points 47 months ago

As I said in the Description, before the drives were used in my homeserver, but it died and the new one has only 2 bays, so I swaped out the two WD drives and added the 3 Seagate drives. This is the reason why I have 3 drives with only 1TB each.

MLGComputers 1 Build -2 points 47 months ago

Oh sorry on that lol...I just skipped to the interesting parts such as your review on the Nocutal fans. Also you should have got a Intel i5.

LechnerFlo submitter 4 Builds 4 points 47 months ago

I thougt about an i5, but is decided for the 8350 because of the extra money i could have for other parts. You should know i only get my pocket money and now my budget is 0 so I thought the 8350 was the best decision.

Smk54 3 Builds 2 points 47 months ago

AMD 8350 is a solid reliable CPU. It is very interesting to read comments that insinuate that unless a build has an I5 or I7, it should only be a budget build. I missed the memo that requires builds that cost more than $1000 to have an Intel CPU. I AM NOT knocking Intel CPUs. They are a great product.

Smk54 3 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

What is the price point at which a build must have an Intel CPU?

cilvre 6 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

i don't understand why some people get that way, i have a friend who was getting down on amd which he had loved for years after i introduced them to him and it was cause of "pro" streamers he followed online, so i had him give me the names of what they used and i mirrored their setup without issue. he finally came back around to understanding that benchmarks arent everything compared to real life use.

Smk54 3 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

Amen!

MLGComputers 1 Build 0 points 47 months ago

All depends on your budget

Smk54 3 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

Of course it depends on budget as well as where you need to emphasize the components. I need more RAM and a decent video card. Gamers need less RAM and better video cards. My issue is the frequent criticism of builds in $1000-2000 range that have AMD CPUs. It seems as if the belief is that the money was wasted by not using an I5 or I7 processor.

MLGComputers 1 Build 1 point 47 months ago

Because it was wasted.AM3+ is dead. And FX cpu's don't last to long as for my 9590 only lasted 1.5 years NO OVERCLOCK.Well I'm still using it but it's pretty much dead If you get say a Z97 board with a low end say i3 you can easily get a i5 later on even though the i5-4690K will be old in a few months due to SkyLake taking over Haswell but still. You really should not be buying a AMD CPU unless it's a Kaveri APU or Athlon 860K

Smk54 3 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

All good points, however I have had much better results with FX chips, and I love the APU Kaveri APUs.
