Description

Azrael(n) - often identified with the Archangel of Death.

Red & Black themed build I did for a friends first custom computer with Black Friday deals. Keyboard, Mouse, and Headset are next up to finish the setup.

It's also the name of Gargamel's cat from the Smurfs...but +1 for a nice build!

I hate when the mobo has a brown pcb instead of the expected black

It only looks like that with a direct light source.

As long as you don't have stage lights pointed at your mobo at all times it looks black. Like my msi mobo looks black unless i put a flashlight on it.

Glad I'm not the only one haha.

I have this mobo, and the pcb actually is black, its just the ribbons(?) that are running all over the surface are brown. They cover a lot of surface area causing it to look brown.

Edit: wrong mobo on the parts list. You have a G43 pictured but a G45 listed.

Lovely build. I love that case. Why the Windows 7 Ultimate? Also, did you consider getting a 280x or 7970 instead of the 770? How is that cooler working out for you?

Have you seen the prices/ availability of the 280x and 7970 lately?

  • 1 point

No, have they changed? Last time I saw they were the same price if not less than the 770.

Out of stock everywhere, if you can find them, they are priced like $100 more. This is due to litecoin becoming more popular and amd can't keep up with the demand.

Just a tip. stay away from cryptocurrency mining.

I considered a 280x but as Hakumisoso said, they're sold out almost everywhere. Plus the 770 seemed to perform better in my personal comparison and the particular one I got overclocked/performs beautifully.

I actually already own a Windows 7 Ultimate disk so the $200+/- is actually just accounting for her desk and other various expenses. It didn't actually cost anything towards the build itself.

Like a dream! Haven't finished fine tuning the overclocks yet but it's in the 2000+ score range in Valley Benchmark.

Very nice color themed build. The NZXT Phantoms seem to be the only all red cases out there.

Btw you have the wrong case listed as this is a regular Phantom, not a 530. Not a biggie, just pointing it out.

Thanks! Red and Black are her two favorite colors so I figured I'd try to build off that.

Haha yeah, I know. But there's no "Red" Phantom available besides this one that's full tower as well. Close enough right?!

You might link to the exact case model in case somebody is wanting to get it. :)

Looks awesome and has an awesome name! I love the name Azrael and I'm using the same memory, processor and graphics card in my build. I almost got that SSD but I figured I could wait until my first upgrade to get one. +1

I always take pictures from start to finish of the build. I could have just uploaded the final outcome but I figured she'd like to see the progress of her build.

One thing I don't really like about this case is that you can see every bit of wiring, so you've got to really make it neat in a red case.

That is a beautiful job. I thought I was looking at a custom paint job on the case. Didn't realize that case came completely painted. +1

Yes. Because 500Gb is about 2x more than she'll ever use tbh.

Normally I would totally agree but Black Friday deal actually made it cheaper than a 1 or 2TB HD. Plus she's seriously never going to come close to filling past 60% of that. _^b
