This is the first PC that I have ever built (moving away from pre-built premium prices). I'm planning on upgrading it to a Ryzen 1700 Build in the future but until then, I'm stuck with the FX-8350. Comments and criticisms are welcome as I want to get better at things like cable management, part selection and compatibility etc.

Update: I have now upgraded the graphics card from the original MSI Red Dragon R9 390 card to the MSI Armor OC RX 580 in preparation for my new Ryzen system.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Great radiator, considering my CPU is AMD FX series, cooling is key. Keeps temps between 20 (min) - 30 (max) when idling and then 35 (min) - 40 (max) under load.

Video Card

Great graphics card that is quite light for its power and excellent cooler, meaning virtually no sag on the card itself. It keeps consistently on the low 20's at idle and low 70's when under load! Performs great at 1080p, giving me 120fps + in virtually any game. It also will always give 60fps + at 1440p gaming!

Has most things you'd want in a Mid Tower case. Side window tick, 240mm and 280mm radiator support on the top and front tick, dust filters on intake locations tick, enough anti-vibration drive bays to suit your needs tick, motherboard tray cut-out for easy CPU cooler mounting tick, sound-proofing tick.

This would be five-stars, but, it's quite difficult to install a 240mm radiator in the front as it's not incorporated correctly, but still possible. Once I did that, I have got 10-12 degrees celsius less on my CPU :)!!!

Case Fan

Use these as exhaust fans in my build. They are great at pushing the hot air out the case at all speeds. However, they are very loud at higher RPM's so I keep them on medium power (around 7V) so that they move air, but are still dead quiet.

Case Fan

Great exhaust fan, moves lots of air, with an attractive red LED.

love your build are you going to upgrade to ryzen or wait?

Definitely upgrading to Ryzen, but I have to wait until my friend gets Threadripper (whenever it gets released) so I can buy his R7 1700X and his Asus X370 Crosshair VI Hero off of him for just £225!!!

For that price point, that is a very compelling build, I can assure you that the MSI Armor OC RX 580 is a great, quiet, and cool card, and I can easily handle 1080p 60fps on Witcher 3 Ultra :D The only recommendation that I would make is change the R5 1600X to a 1600,and use the extra money on a faster/larger SSD, other than, well done!

I know I'm late on these comments, but I would recommend you upgrading your RAM to 16gb of ddr4. I know that 8gb is good for games nowadays, I would seriously recommend upgrading to 16gb like I said, especially for the future. Other than that the build looks good! Congrats

Wait a bit for ram prices to decrease

Great build, love the aesthetic and the parts pairing is on-point! Would love to see more well-lit pictures of the inside, this will definitely serve you well until you decide to switch to Ryzen/Vega! +1 from me brother!

Newer pics have been added if you would like to see them, however, the lighting wouldn't work too well, so I tried my best.

Any trouble with any of the parts from this build? I'm looking at getting the RX 580.
