This PC was built for development work and compiling then gaming. Everything works great. 2 monitors in eyefinity on the 7870 can play almost all my games at 60FPS. The lowest I've seen average is 49FPS
It's not that this build is bad, it's just the part choices are just... odd. 8gb, you could have gotten for about $70-$80 right now, and you could have gotten a decent 64gb SSD boot drive and a 7950.
Seeing as this is labeled as a "gaming" build, part choices aren't great. You could have went with a 2x4gb 1600 kit of RAM and saved almost $200 and lost no game performance. Seagate Momentus XT is way overpriced IMO, could have had a decent 250gb ssd for that price, or even a 128gb 840 pro for about $25 less. All that money saved could have went towards a gtx 770, which would be much better for your dual monitors, and balance out the build much better. Also Coolmax PSUs are not that great and 900w is overkill. Even with SLI/crossfire 700w would have done fine.
I agree with everything posted. This is where a description or 'actual' prices come in handy. As is, choices are off.
Updated the prices and added a description
I spot a bomb....
This build isn't strictly gaming.
If you're going to zip tie a fan in the optical drive bays, get some vented bay covers. I guess it moves more air over the RAM, but it would be better if it was fresh air.
I tried that but it didn't look right. That fan moves plenty of air as it is.
For a gaming build i agree with everybody else you could of spent your money more wisely
Can I ask where you got the solid side panel instead of the panel with the window mounts? I'm buying this case in a few weeks, and would really love the side panel to be solid.
He may have modded it.
Yeah I figured he might of... I saw a video on youtube. I don't have that kind of hardware though :/
Yes I modded it :p It took about 10 minutes
When the CPU cooler cost more than your Mobo you know it's good ****. (Or overpriced, depends).
It didn't cost more then the mobo
The price weren't the same at the time of my comment.
What's with all the RAM?
Exactly....unless hes using BIM/Civil 3d its pointless. Nothing like wasting a ton of money on ram to see no gains. Should have saved the money you spent on ram and picked up a i7.
Or better yet, a 7950/70.
Should have gotten just one hdd,you can get a seagate barracude 2 tb for like $100.You should of also drop down to just 8gb of RAM since it's a "gaming" build with the money saved buy an SSD. Should of also just gone with one monitor instead especially if you are going to be playing fps. And with all that money that you could have saved you could have gotten a decent GTX 770.
I already had one HDD.
Isnt that 7870 xt?
I can't criticize the excess of RAM since you clearly point out that gaming was not the primary intention of the PC.
As far as your cooling numbers, those must be off a bit. Unless you're living in icebox, I can't see how your PC at idle would be at 10C/50F. You've got a good cooler on there, but still...
Otherwise, clean build. I like the window mod and the cable management looks great.
My room is usually about 60F so its in a pretty cool environment
You need to send some of that cool air my way. Seriously. It's an inferno here right now and the office I work in routinely stays above 80 all day with absolutely no air circulation.
Hey i'm about to buy this power supply did you ever have any problems with it?
Ugly colour scheme.
There is no color scheme. I didn't buy this build all at once so I didn't really try to match stuff. I just got what was on sale
Very Clean but why is there no SSD? Also why did you go with a XFX GPU, there one of the worst brands for GPU. Asus and Gigabyte every time. What do you think of the cooler? Should have tried to squeeze in an i5.
The 8350 is just as capable as an i5 in games, and performs better in processing should the OP ever want to. It's down to personal preference. Also, don't say "Asus and Gigabyte every time", because that's so untrue. MSI, EVGA, and even Sapphire and XFX are also good manufacturers. You're absolutely right about the SSD, but I suspect that the OP already had one of the HDDs since they are different models, so that makes it a little better.
Oh yeah also EVGA are also good ;)
I got the 8350 because it has 8 cores. And the main purpose this computer was built for actually benefits from having more cores. And no SSD because I haven't bought one yet. And I went with XFX because the card itself looks nice. And I got a good deal on it
The Momentus is a Hybrid Drive. It's not 'exactly' an SSD, but for the price and the size, it does well enough. As Enlyten said... no need for an i5. XFX makes some fine products. They aren't the 'worst' by any means. Maybe behind Asus and GB, but right behind I would say. If it was PowerColor I'd be saying something different.
Even powercolor isn't as terrible as everyone says.
Especially since I got an awesome deal on the graphics card
