Description

Build Date 4-22-2013

New build because I got a Korean 1440p monitor and my old rig wouldn't run it at the FPS I wanted. Slight overclock on GPUs, i7 is overclocked to 4.2 only using MSI's OC utility for the ease of it.

Got a stable OC on the i7 up to 4.6Ghz but the fans had to spin up on the H100i to keep it to temperatures that I liked.

GPUs have a slight OC because they get hot and loud, also not much more room on them unfortunately, my cards don't like to be pushed :(

Really digging this setup! We have a fairly similar rig. I don't have the extra monitors, but the Korean monitor and dual 7950s. I'm curious as to what FPS you're getting in some popular games or some 3D Mark scores would work too.

In BF3, with full settings, I average about 120 FPS on the 1440p. Really haven't "benchmarked" the others, but I'll play a couple different ones and see whats what.

That's about what I was getting. Have you looked into overclocking that monitor yet? I OCed mine to 110hz without any lines or artifacts, but I backed it down to 96hz to be conservative.

I am going to be trying soon, really haven't had time with work to sit down and mess with it.

Just ran the "performance" preset because I only have the demo, but figured I would give you the scores it got.

I'm getting similar scores though the 8350 can't quite compete with the 3770k in those physics scores. I only go crazy with OCing for the sake of benchmarking. See how high you can get those cards!

Nice parts overall. How do you like the mobo and the case? Why not the 840 Evo? Why did you choose 16 GB RAM? More pics please. But +1 for spending $3k because of a monitor. :P

I love the Case(really good airflow but also pretty quiet)I really like the mobo, makes it stupid easy to OC and has no driver problems.

This mobo, case, and H100i there is very small amount of clearance. Had to pull the fans off the rad to get the rad in and then put the fans on again.

I think I got the 840 on sale and that was the only reason.

I went with 16gb because I also play with photography and it can take a bit to stitch together a 10 photo panoramic.

Haha, well I had 1 7950 already... but the rest was purchased after the monitor. I will try to get some more pics for you.

Good spot.. Can't believe I selected the wrong one. Will try to edit the build to reflect the correct case. Thanks!

So are you going to edit it? It literally takes 30 seconds to change.

quick question, why'd you go with two 7950's instead of two 7970's? (if I am missing something please let me know!) otherwise, great build man!

In April the gap between a 7950 and 7970 was quite a bit bigger.

Got it off ebay(http://www.ebay.com/itm/181169025011) Seller(easymountlcd) communicated well and shipped quickly.

I used the clamp one, but there is one with a stand as well if i remember right.

Nice 7950's! 7950's are one of the best price/performance GPU's right now, these things must be awesome. Really fantastic job man.

  • 1 point

Thanks! They are awesome! Especially what you can get them for now. Plus the 3 free games makes them an awesome deal. I would go with 7970s If I was building this now though or a 280x build.

I have two 7970s overclocked to 1040MHZ and the overall graphics score for my two overclocked 7970s isn't much higher than yours (18924). I have an i5 instead of an i7 in my build so that might be where the discrepancy is, but you aren't too far off with your 7950CF setup. I think you made the right choice in terms of which cards to game on.

Thanks a lot. I'm hoping to get some more OCing trials in to see if I can push them a little farther. When I did it the first time I couldn't get it stable at 1000mhz. Maybe I will with newer drivers and things.. we will see.

I like your build, do the 4 fans on the GPUs help a ton and are they loud? I love the Define R4, will probably be the case for my next build.

I don't have temp problems for gaming, but for litecoin mining, the cards go up to 82-84C which I wasn't comfortable with. The four fans help keep the temps at 75C for both cards during mining.

For the sound, I can't hear them over the rest of the fans, but my setup has a lot of fans and is loud in the first place. The R4 helps keep it quieter, but it can only do so much.

  • 1 point

Oh ok. What kind of performance are you getting while mining?

Benchmarking my card ends up around 75-80C.

I'm joking bro.

So long as it's not on console it's fine with me.
