Description

I dubbed this machine 'The Monolith' because of it's black Fractal Design R5 tower case. It is a beautiful, simplistic black and red theme with RGB lighting. No optical disc or sd cards, although I bought a blu-ray drive initially for the build. The drive would not fit due to the 280mm radiator location on the forward top and the rear fan configuration which i didn't want to change or compromise. I'll add the blu-ray later as external. I love the upgraded Thermaltake riing RGB fans 1 x 120mm and 4 x 140mm. Initial 3DMark score with Time Spy was 6688 which is better than 81% of all comparable machines out there. Passed the FireStrike stress tests with a score of 98.4%. Pretty darn good if you ask me.

I would probably have those top fans running as exhaust? Otherwise, this is one beast of a build!

I second that, fans should probably be running exhaust.

Corsair recommended in the manual to run as intakes. All are intake except for the rear fan. Positive pressure case! Also, made my own top case dust filter with microscreen from Lowes.

But with that radiator you're pulling hot air into the case. This will increase air temp in case as the hot air has no where to go besides onto the GPU

I understand. I was going to make it an exhaust, hot air rises out of the top rad, but the corsair manual recommends rad fans as intake. This is because the ambient air temp in the room is cooler than inside, ac air. With the venturi effect, the air speeds through the radiator fans and rapidly expands thus the air cools down further. My average cpu temp is 20c and board temp is 28c at idle, gpu 35c with fans idle.

Yeh blow hot air through the radiator that should keep the CPU nice and cool.... Not

Love the case. Congratulations on matching colors. Do you do audio? I see a microphone and a pop filter...

Pretty similar to my recent build. I got 97% on that firestrike test. I wanted that STRIX 1080 too... but they were all sold out for so long and I couldn't wait...

I know! I waited a long time to get the STRIX 1080. Try nowinstock.net and have your phone logged into newegg with text alerts the next time you upgrade your gpu/cup to the next big thing.

Should have gotten the Maximus Hero that comes with the Wifi connect, overall nice build.

Ps. Corsair case fans are prettier.

Going to make a build like this but I want to keep the optical drive.
Why did you choose to put your cooler in the position you did?
I want to put mine up against the door on the right-hand side of the case and leave the roof closed.
This is my first build so I don't know how many other fans I'd need. Do I need any more than what comes with the case?

Many people prefer to put the rad on the front of the case and move the hdds back to accommodate an optical drive. I thought it looked better on top. I installed the OS with a temp optical drive then removed it, but you can install the OS with a thumb drive pretty easily. I installed a custom mesh on top to prevent dust build up from Lowe's. Works well.
