My First Build

CPU Clock Rate

3.8 GHz

CPU Temperature While Idle

26.0° C

CPU Temperature Under Load

47.0° C

This was my very first PC build. It's for mostly gaming and web browsing. At the moment, I don't have a separate graphics card, just the onboard graphics. I'll be saving up for a decent gpu to handle some medium gaming in the future. I realize I might have made some mistakes along the way, however, this handles everything a little better than I expected. All parts were purchased at my local Microcenter.

Update: I figured out why the temps are so high, and funny enough, the bios is reading them wrong. I put the real temps below.

Update #2: (4/10/15) I bought a Gigabyte 750 oc 2gb. It runs Titanfall, Payday 2, Far Cry, Arma 2, and all of my other games maxed out at 1400x900. It's perfect for what I need.

Any comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Part Reviews

Very nice, but now that I bought it I would have rather gotten a cpu and a separate gpu. This really does benefit from higher ram speeds.

Fantastic mobo for the price.

Great ram, able to do a little overclocking.

Video Card

Fantastic for my uses

Little to none cable management.

Power Supply

Very quiet and cool. Overall a great psu.

Optical Drive

Loud but gets the job done quickly.

Operating System

It's windows...

I suggest getting a CPU cooler to get those temps down. Otherwise, pretty good budget build.

That's my next step in this PC.

I would have recommended getting faster RAM for that apu, it really benefits from it. What you can try now is overclocking that ram and hopefully getting up to at least 2133. You'll get a significant performance increase in games.

Thank you!

You could of built a better PC with the money you had. :P

P.S. Those are really high temperatures for your CPU.

I realize that now. xD

I agree with other comments, you should consider getting a cpu cooler as the stock one is not going to be enough for that APU. If the ram will take an overclock, you'll benefit there as well as it's what the APU video uses most. if you add a discreet video card later, you can disable the onboard video card on the APU which will lower your temps as well.

Thank you for the advice. I'll definitely be putting that advice into my build.

Good computer, the A10-7850K can hold it's own even against $100 cards but need high speed RAM to do so. If you can try to get high speed RAM for this build later.

Just make sure you get at least a GTX 960 or R9 270X or else your only going to get 1.5x more performance from the igpu.

Also, the psu is going to hinder you a bit when getting a new Graphics card, 500W min for most Graphics cards.

Nice build. I just finished a A10-7850k build myself and am very impressed with it. I agree with some of the other posts in that these cpu's show amazing improvement with faster RAM. If you can't replace the 1600 with 2400, at least try to oc the current RAM. I'm curious about your temps. I'm just using the stock cooler at the moment myself. My temps max at about 58c under full load. I'm not sure of the idle speed because cpu-z register's it at 0-11c when idle and I know that isn't accurate. Anyway, nice build, nice to see someone else on the AMD APU bandwagon.

Nice build! Did you has to update the Bios or the APU worked right out the box?

PhillipWeaver submitter 1 Build 1 point 44 months ago

Sorry for the late replay, but the APU worked out of the box!

I would not use the k280. It has a small number of fan mounts and horrible cable management. I'd recommend something like a Source 210 elite or maybe a Corsair 100r. They both have a much cleaner aesthetic, cable management, and fan mounts.
