Description

this is an update on my current build, "das fluxin" Hey, thanks for checking out my build! i apologize for the image quality! they were taken with a samsung galaxy s4

=============================================================================

the pc is used for heavy gaming and editing, it was a good build, not many problems. my part choice was based on prices and offers, and i think i did quite well, it runs like a dream and boots from cold in 7 secconds to windows login. i moved from an old hp g62 to this machine and loving the move! i benchmarked it on sli 760's on 3d mark: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/4290913

will do a benchmark on the 970 when i oc it and the 760 is set correctly :)

=============================================================================

my notes on parts:

CPU: i7 superfast and unlocked. helps render times when editing in vegas :)

Motherboard: annoyed with it, the multiplier range on it has locked to 16 - 35, this means i cannot overclock my i7. i have tried reseting the cmos, restoring default bios options and still no luck

Memory: is memory, nuff seid'

SSD: super fast and boots from cold in seven secconds! would reccomend

Graphics Card: the 970 scared the crap outta me, i forgot its fans dont spin untill they are needed' awesome card, not overclocked it at all yet, just waiting for the time i need to :) the 760 is going to be used for physx

monitors: asus monitor is coming in the post, the acer monitor has amazing colours :)

cpu Cooler: is awesome! my temps have gone down from 50c idle to 38c and 50c full load :) worth the money. this cooler does not fit natively, if you only use four screws and ultra slim fans it will fit in the case,

psu: gets some coil whine, its not noticable unless you have the side panel of the case off but can be annoying (i dont notice because i use a headset!)

Case: where do i begin! the stock fans are L.O.U.D the included dust filters are amazing! cable management is ok with a good amount of clearence! if you want to rout the cpu power you need to remove the motherboard and fans from the top left corner! all around a good looking case though,

+1 for the Z11 Plus. The struggle is real.

its a good case in general, there is alot of room for improvement though :)

Yes, it is the case I currently have. I bought it on a whim after the case I was originally going to buy went out of stock. I will be upgrading to an NZXT S340 soon.

The funny thing was, the instruction manual was packages inside of the case, and because I was new to building computers I had no idea how top open it.

im thinking of waiting for the z15 or switching to one of the phantom cases :)

Your motherboard appears to have a chipset (z68) designed for Sandy Bridge (ex: Intel Core ix 2xxx) as opposed to Ivy Bridge (ex. Intel Core ix 3xxx), which is the kind of processor you have. If you get a new motherboard with a "7" after the letter, it will work better with the processor that you have. That might be your overclocking problem. I'm surprised your (otherwise pretty boss) build even works with the mismatched processor-chipset configuration. You must be some kind of British wizard.

i was overclocking before, just one day on the magical game of planetside it blue screened and i then rebooted and it pops up with "overclock failed" and the multiplier range locked :( if anyone has a fix i will donate a free internet cookie to you!

thanks for the comment!

A fix would be getting a Z77 board. I recommend this one

i was thinking of upgrading to x99 but im going to wait, my wallet has taken a beating this year :) i can go without overclocking my cpu for a while. thanks for the suggestion though!

There's so much to change to go to X99. You'll need new RAM, a new motherboard, and a new CPU. It gets expensive very quickly.

thats why im going to wait, buy things individually starting with the most expensive :)

I do also, The overclock I'm running is 1.4ghz (1400mhz)but am limited by the asus software, perfectly stable at stock voltage! The card is still stable and Silent , love the card!

Where's the H100i at?

  • 1 point

its in the top, it was crazy hard to mount. could not use the correct placement but i got it to fit, if you use ultra slim fans in the top you can do a pull configuration. the h100 is in the top.

nice build. did the same what you did with the cm evo. looks much better!

  • 1 point

it helped the performance, i dropped 5c when i added the extra fan. im now using a h100, the evo is a spare now.

  • 1 point

How do you like the h100? How big of a temp difference is there on load between the h100 and the CM?

  • 1 point

On the cooler master I was idling at 50-60c and with highest hitting 81c with the h100 I sit at 38c and top out around 67c in pull :) could tune a nice oc. For those thinking that I didn't mount the 212 correctly I remounted several times and used artic silver 7. I have not changed the thermal compound between switches, I guess the 212 could not handle the 3770k

  • 1 point

holy crap thats quite a difference! Granted, you are running SLI so I bet that's why those temps were quite high. If I ever overclock or SLI, looks like I may go with your route.

yeah, this cooler is actually the first liquid cooler ive used, it may have been just some damaged heat pipes on the 212 but im not sure, its a great cooler dont get me wrong though, yeah id agree, the 760's did run hot (81c 100%) and had alot of coil whine.

One picture contains a Corsair H100 (I belive) while another contains a Cooler Master Cooler... And no H100i, interesting. Anyway, nice build, +1

What OS are you running for that fast boot time? I'm guessing Windows 8?

  • 1 point

I'm multi booting windows 7 and windows 8.1 I get the fastest boot time with win 7 because my windows 8.1 just goes to a black screen, have no idea how this happened, just diddent boot one day!

I heavily customised the windows 7 registry and boot files, that is why it boots at crazy speeds. It's windows 7 enterprise x64
