Description

This is my first build in well over 10 years. Used to game on PC many years ago as a kid and in my early teens as I had a relative living close by who would hand me down old components and build me setups to game on. Sadly as adult responsibilties struck, the rate at which he was able to upgrade slowed meaning i was left with an obsolete setup. This is when I made the move over to console gaming, which I'd enjoyed up until recently. The desire to build a PC was always there, just never got round to it. Recently a couple of friends decided to take the plunge and built new machines and after playing fallout 4 on ps4 and the frame rate being almost unplayable I decided it was time.

Originally I had a budget set at £1000 and was aiming towards a gtx 980. Soon as i found out the 1070 was on the way I decided to play a game of patience. by the time I managed to actually find stock my budget had already become a distant memory.

I'd said to myself I'd keep cost down on peripherals so I bought the coolermaster CM Storm mouse and keyboard combo for £26 and settled for an AOC 24" gsync monitor. used the mouse and keyboard for a month but the temptation to upgrade them hit me already. Now using a Corsair Strafe RGB and a Corsair M65 Pro RGB. Currently waiting to find an ultrawide gsync monitor in sale sometime, soon as that happens I'll be upgrading.

So far my build has destroyed absolutely everything I've thrown at it in 1080p chucking out at least 100fps with everything maxed out. Safe to say I'm a master race convert.

Next thing on the list is the NZXT Hue+ to highlight the awesomeness inside. Following that I'll be upgrading the ridiculously noisy stock fans that came with the Corsair cooler, then possibly upgrading the speakers to get the build finished.

I'm using an Ikea Malm desk, which has more than enough space for me and has the added bonus of the built in cable management tray underneath. I added a strip of RGB Led strip light round the back edge of the desk, which I mainly leave set to white since my theme is black and white though I've chucked subtle little hints of red and blue in (WASD keys blue, R key in red. Corsair mouse led's alternate blue/white and then red logo on the chair). I also upgraded from using a dodgy old dining chair with wobbly legs to a GtOmega Pro racing chair.

Any comments would be appreciated since I'm somewhat of a noob, any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks man. It's an Ikea desk in the Malm range. Really like it because it's spacious and has build in cable management rack underneath.

So I saw one of the pictures looking into the case through that glass and saw some wires in the reflection. Not yet realizing they were a reflection I thought I should tell you to grab some zip ties or something and get them out of the way. ha!

Turns out it has great cable management. Great build! I like the plan.

Haha that's my bad, photos aren't the best. Was so over excited when I started building that I forgot to take photos. I have terrible OCD when it comes to keeping things tidy so cable management was probably the most important part of the whole build for me. Really appreciate your comments :)

I haven't done because I was half tempted to add one down the line. Now realising that I'll likely never add one so will be removing it.

Really sorry, only just seen this. The monitor was fine for a budget G-sync monitor, but I actually upgraded to an Acer Predator XB27HU.
