Build

Definitely not a RGB build

by Xyphobia

Description

This is actually my 2nd build and I always love small form builds. I started from Cougar QBX then followed by NZXT manta, then this one INWIN 301. This is my first mod. Im sorry if its just plain and simple I just wanted to show off the RGB light show :).

Decided to get a white theme pc, since the idea here is to show off the RGB lights.

So to start off with the case, i chose INWIN 301. I decided to go with a mATX motherboard instead of mITX since there is only one i know with white motherboard which is MSI mortar Arctic b250m. Here in my place INWIN 301 is really hard to find especially white version. I actually purchased black version of it since it was the only available then painted it to white. Then I already have the GTX 1070 asus strix since my first build from my cougar qbx I already have the G skill tridentz RGB.

Upgraded from i5 6500 to i7 7700. I chose this processor (locked version) since im not really a hardcore overclock enthusiast. This build is mainly for games, work and daily web activity.

I chose the nzxt hue+ over the corsair lighting nod because of the led strip. Nzxt hue+ does have white strip or white colored pcb in the led strip. and for the rgb fans, i picked up corsair hd120 over the AER fan of nzxt. since they have white blades. :D

lastly I chose nzxt kraken x52 for my cpu AIO. (And I managed to Mod this into Custom loop) Im not sure if Im the first one to mod this AIO, but im proud that my project is successful. (Sleepless nights and stressful modification process paid off :D)

I forgot to mention, I didn't purchase the corsair commander pro for my corsair hd120 fan for the rgb effect, I actually modded a custom controller. I saw it on youtube using a adruino chip. And actually its easy thing to do if you just know what your doing. :) instead of paying $100 for a controller you might wanna check out adruino chip its just $10 on ebay. or lesser...

Well i just wanted to share my RGB build; and here it goes :D hope you like it.

I actually joined a contest here in my place for rigshow, and this baby won 1st place for best in small form factor.. :) yay!

it's just not figured out how just yet

grahkrindrog55 14 points 14 months ago

How did you modified the kraken x52?? I've been thinking to do the same thing but I can't figure it out

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 11 points 14 months ago

I did a lot of research before doing this modification. First about the corrosion, if i mix 2 metals this will lead to a problem. I was actually thinking using a different radiator. But I prefer with the default nzxt radiator Second is about the water pressure and water flow. Longer tubes and bigger diameter tubing needs more pumping power since default tube of the AIO is very tiny you need to add 1 more external pump. Third is about the coolant (I think pastel coolants or thick coolants is a no no to this modification) the nzxt pump might get clog quickly. Lastly, always plan ahead... Choose carefully what tubing and fittings youre going to use. I used 16" OD 14" ID tubes and fittings.

In the process how to fit the the fittings to barb ends of the pump and rads uhm.. its a secret :D I dont want people to blame me because of leaking and other stuffs. It might kill your system. There are a lot of tutorial in youtube for modification of AIO :D Just go and research em up. :)

Tech22 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

How did you attach the fittings? I am trying this with the x42 for the whole summer and could not figure it out!

professor.MOB 1 Build 0 points 14 months ago

i didn't even know you can modifie it that's new !:D

Oh man, you pulled off that nzxt Kraken mod! Very nice, +1

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 2 points 14 months ago

Thanks man... :D It was really a big accomplishment for me... This mod took me a week to finish just for the AIO... Got failed twice on the first few days because of leaks.. :( but managed to fixed those leaks. :)

Great build, was just wondering what you painted your case white with? and how many coats did use?

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

i painted thin coats for 3 times... then proceed with heavy sprays 2 times.. I only used 2 cans of spray paint.. this is actually matte white.. :D

Blacksm1le 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

good work, pretty water cooling how to find you your keyboard 4 times that I return this keyboard for problems now Asus has decided to refund me my keyboard

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

I guess im lucky with my claymore... i purchased this one last year december 2016.. :) still feels like brand new.. (cherry mx blue switch here by the way) i love clicky sounds :D

frustratedrocka 1 point 14 months ago

Notice you put the fans behind the bracket to fit the GPU in there. Are you seeing any CPU temp issues from that?

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

idle at 36C then full load 100% cpu usage for a 1hour (stress test) 52C its much hotter by 5-8 degrees on normal push pull settings.. or for typical more ventilation cpu case..

This is a sexy build

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Thank you! :D RGB is life for me... _^

Caminon 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Really badass! The X52 mod is really nice, but so is the simpler, GPU paintjob. As someone who wishes to custom paint his Strix card, how did you cover the logo on the backplate to prevent it from being painted on?

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Used masking tape :D just doing basics of painting.. Im still new to this things. Just doing research every thing I do.

Nightstorm229 1 point 14 months ago

One of the best RGB themes builds i have ever seen. +1 for the size of this beuaty xD love it all around

Key caps look mint

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Thanks... this just cost $10 here in my place :D

Anyansayo 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

That is pretty intuitive that you changed the NZXT Kraken into a custom loop. It really is the best looking CPU cooler that is out there. I know that you said that you didn't need to overclock, but I think that at this price and with a custom loop, the 7700K is almost no question. But that is just my thought on that matter. I also think that a higher end motherboard would be better for the exact same reason.

On a different note, what kind of things do you run specifically? And how does it run them?

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Well I do gaming (Overwatch mostly). :) and about the parts, all of this were like purchased 2nd hand. some of them are on my friends parts.. bought em half a price or like 25% cheaper.. thats why I didn't purchase i7 7700k (unlocked version).

Actually right now. On this day: purchased Asus Strix Z270i. Will be moving to core p1 case :D but im still tight on budget for mods... sorry. i will post as soon as possible for the update.

Anyansayo 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Okay, I can see that. The Asus boards are good and That makes a lot more sense now that you said that you got the parts for a lowered price. The RGB looks great.

Stereotypical_Whale 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Hello ociffer, im not as think as you drunk I am. RBG? What RBG?

JustBuilding 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

10/10 Build. Desktop Wallpaper makes the RGB feeling worse.

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

I dont have any idea how to pair RGB Lights and wallpaper. Im sorry.. I usually run wallpaper engine (Audio Visualizer)

TheKidCarson 1 point 14 months ago

The 2nd pic reminds me of fruit loops under a uv light +1 insanely cool build.

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Thanks! :)

cyanidies 1 point 14 months ago

Great job, I enjoy both small form factor PC's and fancy lighting so this is tight. What is that funky keyboard?

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Asus Claymore (TKL) with custom keycaps. :) Small form factor rigs are fun to build. challenging parts are cable management..

Nice mod of the kraken aio! I'd never personally do this since I've had some asekek pumps die on me in the past, but congrats on the sleek build! Those runs look sexy ; )

kristian000 1 point 14 months ago

If only you used the 805 Infinity this would be 11/10 but obviously a beautiful sight. Props!

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 2 points 14 months ago

yeah! I saw that infinity rgb.(Sick light show! :D) But its a mid tower case(i think?) I always choose small form factor cases. (I dont know, its just me..)

MayhemDarkshadow 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

The AIO turned into custom loop is pretty darn impressive

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Thank you! :)

Xyxer 1 point 14 months ago

One mistake: your ddr4 3000 ram is bottlenecked by the chipset

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

BurgerBoulevard 1 point 14 months ago

Just curious what did you use to paint your radiator? I've been looking for a white one for my custom loop, but they're all almost double the prices where I am. Looks sick, good job with the Kraken mod. +1

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Just ordinary spray paint.. just dont paint the fins.. :D

BurgerBoulevard 1 point 14 months ago

That makes so much more sense, I was looking for "radiator safe" paint, and it was like $50....Thanks.

Clemeit 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Hold up. You're controlling your Corsair fans with an Arduino?! How are people not talking about this! That's an amazing money saver idea!

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Yes... for $5~$10 you can control almost all addressable LED bulbs and as long as its not 5050 LED. :) I just hope there will be a lot of forums talking about this mods. Im still new to this and im still learning to code. :(

Ridden_ 1 point 14 months ago

Now you don't have to do the christmas tree

jenxoff 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Doesn't overclock
Has custom water loop

It looks good, but that's kinda overkill for a locked processor dude.
Good build nontheless.

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

Yeah i know. Its a bit overkill for the LCS with a lock processor. Its just i bought this parts half the price. Didnt spend that much. Thats why those parts werent planned well. thank you! :) cheers!

haring_dagitab 1 point 13 months ago

I actually have the same build as yours save from the VC. I do have MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X whose length is 279mm. I'm wondering if X52's radiators and fans would fit on the front side without any modifications.

In any case, great build man! Dito ako actually nainspire. :D Pinoy builders rock!

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

Asus strix is actually 290mm in length. :) But you have to install first the rads and fans then the video card. Sakto yan. :)

haring_dagitab 1 point 13 months ago

May nakikita akong empty space sa harap ng case. Pwede ba dun ilagay yung fans tapos radiator sa may loob ng case para may space pa for the VC?

shibas.butthole 1 point 13 months ago

How is your build holding up in October 2017, with the release of the new Coffee Lake and Future Ice Lake Processors?

UnicornRelish 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

how did you fit that fan on the back exhaust with the RGB strip? i cant fit mine for the life of me

Puhlse 1 point 11 months ago

You could've at least, AT LEAST, gotten an rgb hard drive.. smh

In all seriousness, this is a great build!

IsiahADavis 1 Build 1 point 11 months ago

This is such a sexy build! I'm probably gonna build white themed build in this case and I hope it looks half as nice as yours.

tech_geek100 1 Build 1 point 11 months ago

Yeah, totally not an RGB build XD

AtreveteTete92 1 point 10 months ago

I was wondering if you have a RGB pc build? Just wondering

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 6 months ago

Darcyvell14 1 point 1 month ago

whats ur wallpaper?

Kirre 1 point 4 days ago

Why did you even bother getting a gpu when you got all that rgb?

TheGamingBible 0 points 14 months ago

How do you expect yourself to comfortably edit/play? I feel with that many colors being blasted into your eyes you'd have a hard time seeing colors correctly during computer use and for a short time after. I never understood the usability of R.G.B as it creates more problems (Cost, sight and power usage) than what it solves.

Peace

sirkittylover 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

I could not agree more

TheGamingBible 2 points 14 months ago

;)

Anyansayo 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

People like RGB because it makes the build look more interesting. Of course some may be more conservative in their usage of it while some may go all out like this. It really is all about aesthetics.

Xyphobia submitter 4 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Yeah I know... But actually the tempered glass of the inwin 301 is tinted.... The light glows on the strip actually filtered like 40-50% :D

And all of the light effects are controlled via software.. I can actually turn em off just a press of a button... :)

Lyrix -1 points 14 months ago

I love this mod!!!
