Description

All-round gaming rig + workstation. Bought and built most of the core components in 2013, CPU, RAM, MOBO and PSU. Over time, I built the MCP on various whims, and new releases that tickled my fancy.

Had to go SLI with the GTX 970s as the VG236H monitors I had purchased a couple years prior had 0 Display ports, and would only accept the 120hz signal over DVI.

Replaced my old chassis with the Fractal Define S for better AIO cooling options, as the RV01, though a full tower, had many spacial limitations.

Purchased the ROG Swift for games that don't work well with NVIDIA surround, plus... Dat 1440p 144hz doe.

The Noctuas are the most recent addition to the MCP family, dropping my ambient temps into the low 20s.

ZMax Telescoping Variable Volt APV Rev. 2, Stainless.

Can't say I'm proud to be addicted to ecigs, but at least I cut out the analogs. :)

Broked arm makes posting tough.

So, as the only completed build I'd ever posted never got any attention, and the fact that I'm relatively newish to PCPartPicker, I actually didn't think these completed builds went public. lol

I've updated some of the description with some notes on the build, more pics to come once I get home and scour through my photo library/clean up and take more pics.

"Master Control Program: You're in trouble, program. Why don't you make it easy on yourself? Who's your user? CLU: Forget it, mister high-and-mighty Master Control! You aren't making me talk! "

Dude built the MCP. Watch out it will turn on you if you're not careful.

980ti > 970s in SLI

Why not a single GTX 980 ti? They're typically cheaper than 2 GTX 970s and perform better in games while having almost twice the amount of Vram available.

Mostly because the 3 identical monitors (VG236H) only accept 120hz over DVI, no display ports either, also, the 980 ti hadn't been released yet.

In order for 120hz / 3D to work on a single GPU, said GPU must have either 3 DVI ports, or I'd have to buy an active adapter ($100ish at the time of purchase of the cards).

Since eff buying a $100 adapter, and 3 DVI ports on a single card didn't exist (Essentially), I went SLI 970s.

You can get 16GB of RAM that's much faster and cheaper than $200...

Looks pretty nice! Also, enjoy your surplus of monitors. The only thing I don't understand is why noctua case fans always have that ugly color scheme.... Enjoy your master control computer.

FULLY agreed, I actually held off buying them based on the looks alone, until I decided performance trumps aesthetics.

Yeah, the noctua fans preform pretty well.

lol.. Trying to post stuff with a broken dominant hand is tough. Most-likely will update all the text and add more pics mid-March when my arm comes out of the cast. :)
