Build

Budget Gaming Build

by ninja650r

Description

Gaming and reddit.

Planetside 2 GTA V iRacing

Runs flawlessly.

Picture shows GTX 550ti which is what I was running until I replaced it with a GTX 770 last week.

Part Reviews

CPU

Probably the best cpu you can get for the money as far as gaming is concerned.

CPU Cooler

Keeps my CPU chilly and I like the corsair link. But it's thick, and the hoses are ugly.

Motherboard

It does the job. No USB 3.0 headers though. I basically blindly grabbed it off the shelf at frys because I was so fed up with my previous MOBO.

Memory

It's RAM. Does RAM stuff. There's probably too much of it. Only complaint is the sky scraper sized heat sinks.

Storage

No complaints. I bought this SSD over 2 years ago and it was a great deal then to run in conjunction with an HDD. Next build will be pure SSD.

Video Card

Probably the highlight of my build. Like the fx6300 it's probably the best price:performance you can get. Especially if you find one used.

Case

Great looking case. Has all the bare necessities and the drive bays are very nice.

Complaints: no grommets for the cable routing cut outs No way to use a 240mm radiator

Power Supply

This powers my PC and hasn't exploded. So far so good

Would you mind giving away that 550ti? Oh and awesome build by the way, I'm giving it my up vote!

It's not mine to give away. Was borrowing it from a friend because I thought my 7770 took a ****.

Thanks though

How much did you pay for your 770? If you dont mind me asking

ninja650r submitter 2 Builds 3 points 44 months ago

$180 with backplate

jambii420 1 Build 1 point 44 months ago

Very nice indeed

Charmin 1 point 45 months ago

No problem! And lol I wasn't actually gonna take it, that would be a bit bad on my part, trying to freeload off of others.

Very nice build! Its amazingly clean, wonderful cable management! Good example of not only spending money in the right places, but knowing where to save money without impeding performance. The SSD is a little pricey for just 120GB, but you cannot argue with Samsung quality. And I think the FX6300 is one of the most underrated processors out there right now! It's absolutely a beast in the sub-$100 CPU market, and if you catch the $85 sale price from time to time, you get an absolute steal! Can't beat it for the price.

is the 16GB worth getting why did you not go with 8GB?

Hi, we have the same PSU and case, does your Antec making a little noise? I'm changing it for this reason.

ninja650r submitter 2 Builds 1 point 44 months ago

No noise from the PSU

A 240mm cooler can be used in a 300R. I have a H100i GTX in said case working fine.

Ian_H. -2 points 45 months ago

Why go for the H80i? It's really not a good cooler at all for the money you're spending on it. Other than that, good build.

LeMMingSlayeR 22 Builds 3 points 45 months ago

The H80i is actually a really good cooler if you have no room in your case for a 240mm radiator (i.e. H100i, probably the most popular all-in-one cooler out there). The only thing I personally don't like about it is that it is so thick, if you use dual fans on it you almost completely cover your motherboard VRMs. I usually run a CPU overclock on all my rigs (free performance) and those VRMs can get hot under load, so you want good airflow over not only those but your RAM. I see his (or hers) has a case fan just above the RAM, that is good... But it looks like the VRM area of the board is completely blocked from moving air. I don't see a overclock in the details so it probably won't be bad, but with that motherboard and cooler, that FX6300 could very well run stable at 4.5ghz or more..... I have seen most run stable at 4.2ghz just on air cooler (hyper 212evo is best IMO).
