Description

Hi everyone! I just finished putting together a (sort of) new build, with a few parts being recycled from my previous desktop. This time, I opted to go spend the money and treat my self to a Lian Li case. Not only does this case look absolutely gorgeous, it fit my criteria for a cube-shaped mATX case (room for H100i in push/pull, solid airflow, but also small). I outfitted the case with a bunch of quiet-edition corsair fans, 4 AF120's, 2 for side intake by GPU, 1 in front, and 1 in back, and 2 SP120s to push air through the radiator. I've got 2 IndustrialPPC Noctua NF-F12s doing the pulling, but I have them scaled far down on the speed, as they go much faster than the Corsair fans at full speed. The biggest difference I found from my older mATX case was in the airflow department; I was able to get about 200MHz higher on the CPU overclock due to the unrestricted H100i exhaust vs. my previous case, the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv mATX. (Not to mention aesthetics, I mean I liked my previous build, but this thing looks badass. :) Anyway, feel free to comment or ask any questions that you may have (I enjoy answering them, so go ahead!).

Part Reviews

CPU

Hands down best price-to-performance ratio for the high-end CPU's available right now. Especially if you live near a MicroCenter and can get 1 for 70-80 dollars off retail.

CPU Cooler

Great liquid cooler, I'll probably never go back to air after using this. (and won't buy a case that it doesn't fit in!)

Motherboard

This motherboard is awesome. It's extremely well built, and has everything you'll need to build an awesome system. (Even has dual PCI-e x16 lanes, which you can use if you have either the 5930k or 5960x).

Memory

Bought this to replace the equivalent Corsair Vengeance LPX kit that I purchased that had a bad stick on arrival. Works great, looks pretty nice too.

Storage

Fast as hell. (but Passmark never reads the seq. read speed correctly, for some reason. Even though CDM reads it just fine.) I'm using the PCI-E to M.2 adapter, since for some reason, I was only getting SATA 3 speeds, even with the SSD correctly configured in the BIOS, etc. Adding the card fixed the issue at least until I buy another GPU. :)

Storage

Does its job as a storage drive, and hasn't died/given me any problems. Therefore, I'll give it 5 stars.

Video Card

Awesome GPU when it's running at stock, but I can't seem to get as much of an overclock out of it as I like (I'm sure if I did a custom loop, I'd be better off, but I don't have enough time to do that :( ). Also it's a very large card. About an inch taller than your average card.

Case

Beautiful, well built, and functional. Hits a home run in all 3 departments. Highly recommend, 10/10.

Power Supply

Very efficient, comes with a lot of cables. :)

Monitor

Fantastic looking panel, I use this as my secondary display. As for quality control, I guess I've been lucky. Neither this nor the monitor below have had issues. I even bought this one open box from Amazon.

Monitor

Same panel as the one above, but supporting 144Hz and Free-Sync. (Yes I know, Free-Sync is an AMD thing, but I valued the IPS aspect of this display over the G-Sync of the ROG Swift, and the new Swift that was IPS -and- G-Sync was not out yet, and probably would cost upwards of 8-900 dollars.)

It's just amazingly beautiful. The Liam Li cases are so beautiful with the correct lighting effects in there. They are expensive but super beautiful. A lot of very high end parts in the build also. This is an excellent setup for gaming.

Really beautiful setup. The PC looks gorgeous and your workstation looks great too!

The colours look great, and that case; that case is just perfect. Overall great job! +1

Are you living on college campus? That door and the cup on the desk kindove say you do. But other than that this is a nice build. Only problem being that thing looks really just to big.

Yes, I go to the University Of Nebraska - Omaha. Thanks for the kind words! For me, the only smaller case than this one that I've owned was my Corsair 250D. If you look up the dimensions of both, you might be surprised at how similar they are. :)

I really do prefer the Evolv over this case for asthetics but besides that it looks and performs really well so a +1 for you! You should look into the Enthoo Pro M if you want both Phanteks asthetics and good airflow :D

Yeah, the Evolvs are awesome looking cases, and they're build like tanks. I took a look at the Pro M, it just seemed a little big; the other reason for my change from the Evolv to the PC-V359 was the size (and the form factor, I really like cubes, but the 250D was too small to fit my GPU without me having to buy low profile PCI-E power connectors, and that I didn't think the cooling capability would be sufficient for me to run at 4.5GHz).

Very nice looking build! For a moment I thought you had a red dildo next to the rig, but I see that it's a flashlight. :-p

He got them tissues ;) Jk super nice build man! whats the difference between like a reg evga 980ti to a declassified or a kingpin? I always see they are like super expensive.

  • 2 points

The main difference is the power delivery and the cooler. The classified card has a larger heatsink, and the kingpin one has one that is the same size as the classified, but made of copper (hence it's super expensive price). They're both pretty sizable cards.

yeah i saw the price of a kingpin and was like dam might as well get a titan lol thanks man

  • 1 point

You're welcome. Yeah, the price of the Kingpin varies too, based on the ASIC % of the card which directly translates to how high of an overclock you can achieve.

MM rank?

Only Silver Elite Master at the moment, but if I win a few more I hope to rank up. I've been there for a while and I've definitely won more than I've lost recently. :)

Nice build. Does the 980 ti classified sag at all?

  • 1 point

It does not. That was my biggest hope for this card, as my previous was an MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G, which sagged quite a bit. When I had this card in a normal orientated case, it didn't sag at all, and now that I have it sitting vertically, no sag either :)

Stunning box, love a good Lian Li :)

Sorry to say this board doesn't have a full speed x4 M.2 slot...

It doesn't? Well that stinks. :( Thanks for telling me, though, now I know why It won't work and I won't waste more time trying to make it. :)

Really doesn't, only thing I can fault about it... Prevented me from using it for a Micro X99 :(

Yeah there's not very many X99 mATX boards out there. :L

Nice build! Hey, how is that monitor? Do you think it is worth it over the MG279Q (IPS and smaller Freesync range)

  • 1 point

The MG279Q is the monitor that I have. My secondary display is the PB278Q.

The two fans closest to the PCIe slots, to they completely overlap the 4x lane? Or at least get close enough to it that it would be difficult to put any kind of card in that 4x lane?

Yes! Another Lian Li case, I'm glad more people are looking at these now. PS. Empty your bin :)

Hi, i love this build.

i am thinking of using same GPU,CPU and MOBO. i have a question: can i install samsung 950 directly to motherboard, will it reduce performance? any issues?

thanks, enjoy your beauty build :)

Do you think there would be space for 2 GPUs in SLI inside that amazing case :) ? I would like to add a couple of Zotac GTX 1070 Founders Edition. Thanks
