I dedicate this build to my brother Pra! Thanks to my wife for helping me in assembly! I am blessed to have a wife who would help her husband assembling a PC!

This is my first proper PC build. I have built 2 budget PCs back in the days with my brother in the Middle East where PC parts are 200% more expensive. So when I came to USA last year, I had to go crazy with abundance of PC parts, not to say a nearby Microcenter. Dream come true ;)

It is not the most cost efficient build, for I don't have a upper limit to my budget. At the same time, I don't want to waste money by buying unnecessary things. My purchase decisions are made because of the Black-Red color theme and simply because I want it! (why not?)

I bought most of my parts at Microcenter because they had stock of the i7 6700K. It was so exciting seeing all those computer parts lined up on aisles, I had to forget about the extra tax. :D

Pros: -i7-6700K overclocks like butter. I could do 5Ghz at 1.4V and 82C max under load. But I settled for 4.8Ghz @1.35V. I just do it for the fun of it, then use the PC <50% load most of the time. :D

-Asus Hero is top notch! It was so easy fighting through memory issues and overclock issues. When I hit a problem, it just resets itself back to life. I only had to hit the CMOS button once so far! Plus the MEM OK button is a great help when overclocking memory and having posting issues.

-Kraken X61- It has a red NZXT sexy logo. Enough said.

-EVGA G2 750W - Top grade power supply. Everything about it oozes quality. Even the packaging looks great. They do include 6 sexy black velcro straps!

-NZXT Noctis 450 - Black color case with Red lighting. What else can I say! I am in love. <3

-Asus R9 390 Strix - Yes Yes Yes, I CAN buy the same model 980Ti. But heck its almost near to Pascal launch and I don't want to get a 1 year old tech. Plus I only play Guild Wars 2, so even this card is overkill.

-Geil 16GB 3000Mhz DDR4 RAM - Geil customer support is AWESOME! They reply you almost instantly. The memory is quad channel so it didn't work right off the bat. But with the new 0902 Bios update, these modules are automatically set at 3000Mhz @ 1.35V. I am still working on improving the timing. Btw they are beautiful!

Acer K272HUL - 1440p, awesome screen quality, got it for $225 with $50 rebate from Newegg. Steal! I will go for 4K with G Sync ~$400 whenever they decide to release it.

Ducky Shine 3 - Great heavy Red LED keyboard, makes the K70 looks like a toy.

Cons: -Kraken X61 - Good cooler. But the pump makes humming sound whenever it wants (though running at same speed). And the fans had to be connected to the power cable, so you can't see your cooler fan RPM in mobo (though it shows up in NZXT CAM software). I had to 'ignore' the CPU FAN option in the BIOS.

-NZXT NOCTIS 450 - The hub is great, BUT it will only work in PWM mode AFTER connecting atleast one PWM fan to the header 1 (if you want to connect more you have to buy extension). So it is not really compatible with Kraken X61. If you get another extension and use the Kraken fans with hub, the CAM software won't detect/control but the motherboard will control (if connected to CPU fan header). If you don't use the Kraken on hub, the hub can't be controlled as PWM with CPU fan header because none of the included fans are PWM. So that is an inconvenience.

-Samsung 850 EVO - All the reviews praised it like GOD, but I don't think it is any better than my ASUS G75's Liteon SSD. Actual benchmarks put it at high 400's read & write in my system. Nothing exciting. I will probably go for the PCI-E SSD next!

-Asus R9 390 Strix - HOT HOT HOT. With Auto fan profile, it hits 70C+ in Guild Wars 2 lol. With customer fan profile it sits at 43C and I don't think its as louder than the Kraken pump + fan. I am scared to overclock this card, but I might try later. The card easily flexes because of its size and weight (backplate strength is a BS marketing gimmick). I used 2 ties to hold on the card case to the chassis frames.

-System build : 1) Case looks big, but it is NOT! So I had to struggle to get the 280mm radiator in (had to remove fan). 2) I had to removed one of the hard disk caddies to install the 11 inch Asus Strix card. It is huge!. 3) Tidy cable management was a bit difficult with thick EVGA cables running down the middle, but the covered shroud at the bottom is really positive. 4) I installed a RGB remote controlled LED on the top of the case and it looks sick!

Good luck if you are building a similar PC! Swap the R9 390 for a 980Ti and you have a monster PC! While those who don't need that much power or dare not 'feel lost' later, could wait for Pascal cards next year.

Part Reviews

Fast and Hot (relatively). Not a 5Ghz on air/liquid out-of-box unit as hyped

CPU Cooler

Good performance. Irritating sound(s). Yes, it makes different sounds at random times as it wishes in silent mode. In performance mode, its a monster! Just put your headphones on!

Thermal Compound

I think it works...meh?

Super cool motherboard I have ever owned (though I may not need the bells and whistles). Hey I just gave $500 profit to Apple, why not $100 to Asus? :D

Super cool red lighting! XMP works with Bios 0902 on Asus Hero VIII.

Video Card

Mixed feelings. All the games work at max settings in 1440p. But runs games at 70C+ and fans are very loud after 50%.

Super cool. Super sexy. Easy cable management. Just hard to get 280mm radiator up top, so do that before you mount the motherboard.

Power Supply

Quality...From packaging to silent cool operation, this unit screams quality!

Operating System

Meh. I don't use any of the features they showed in the advertisements. Another windows...Nothing serious for games. (til DX12...)

Got it for $225 from Newegg. Great colors and visual quality. The monitor makes hissing noise due to unshielded connectors I guess. Its annoying but its still less than the NXZT Kraken X61's pump noise. LOL.

The best keyboard I have ever owned. I will never go back to Razer/Corsair/Logitech or any other flimsy keyboard makers. Its very heavy, no macros, no USB extension, no wrist support, but its a damn good keyboard with red LEDs.

You like the Ducky Shine 3 ? I am interested in the 5.. I don't know when it comes out nor how much it will be so...

I love it. The base is very heavy so the keyboard won't move while typing. The keys feels so sturdy and better than any big brand mechanical keyboards. Only 1 colour, but got many modes.

LOL. I keep my chassis on the PC. Scroll to the right on the picture tab and you can see my setup :/

Moreover the Noctis 450 has bottom dust filter. And I stuck in some filter on the top. Lets hope Strix doesn't turn into a mini-heater :D

Yeah. But its the only card which has Red LED for ~$300. However its actually a white LED with red plastic over it :P
