That, ladies and gentleman, is how you do cable management! +1

Hey now, be nice to the Noctua's, I am kind of fond of them myself. :-)

formulabuild submitter 1 Build 2 points 42 months ago

They work great, they are quiet... and the only place you can see mine is on Reddit and PCPartPicker. ;)

philip staff 10 Builds 3 points 42 months ago

Very nice build!

Jack_Burton 1 point 42 months ago

Cool chair. Is there enough airflow in that desk?

formulabuild submitter 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

I cut out a section (~8" diameter hole, plus a 2.5" hole) of the side of it about 2.5" from the top. Running Prime95 for 24hours the core temps don't get above flirting with 70. I'll probably need a larger opening if I overclock it more.

The bottom is also open for the PSU to draw in cool air.

I don't have a pic of the side of the desk because while the plan is to reuse the unused desk drawer wood and make a "window radiator" that hasn't actually happened yet.

formulabuild submitter 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Spot, identify and describe a fix for the out-of-place cable and you might win a prize!

JasonUK 12 Builds 1 point 42 months ago

I assume you're talking about that ghastly speaker wire! Can't you simply route it under the rear edge of the desk?

formulabuild submitter 1 Build 2 points 42 months ago

I meant in the case, but yes the bright white wires on the desk is an issue. I'm thinking "real" speakers powered by the Denon AVR-3802 in the closet (TOSLINK connected to the PC). That's down the road a bit. Send me a DM on Reddit with your Steam link and I'll send you something anyway.

JasonUK 12 Builds 1 point 42 months ago

Don't worry, I wasn't after anything. Just a bit of self-diagnosed OCD getting the better of me. Your interior cable management looks fine - I'm not sure what you're referring to in there. If it's the front I/O cabling, you can easily tuck this away. Top left (fan?) cable - just zip-tie it behind the heatsink or exhaust fan.

formulabuild submitter 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Yes, the fan cable. I had it sitting closer to the MB but I guess it wanted to be in this shot. Not sure if I can get it on the heatsink. Too bad that CHA_FAN3 header isn't closer to the edge! Probably works well for a side-fan.

Thanks

candy 2 Builds 1 point 42 months ago

Umm just being nit-picky here but why do you have the cpu power cable routed over the back of the cpu? Was it not long enough to route around the cutout?

hanss 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

that idle temp seems very high on the d14 and no oc

formulabuild submitter 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

4.2Ghz OC via the ASUS "CPU-Up" menu option. RAM is on XMP #1 (1600)

hanss 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

oh sorry, nice build +1

LookTopHats 2 Builds 1 point 42 months ago

May I have your whole office?? Pleaseee?? :3

More info on the office. Pretty reasonable to build via Ikea and Overstock .com

LookTopHats 2 Builds 1 point 42 months ago

Haha thanks, i'm 15 though :3

JoeyThePCNoob 2 Builds 1 point 42 months ago

DAMN! that office. Nice build +1

ESPM400 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

That's one helluva hobby room. Just out of curiosity, what models of cars are those on the shelves?

EDIT: I'm pretty sure I see a Mercedes CLK-GTR and a Bugatti EB 110. Also, perhaps a '30s Ford pickup and a GT40, but I could be wrong on those accounts.

formulabuild submitter 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Yes on the CLK-GTR plus a 300SL (gullwing), '51 Chevy truck. F50 and 550 Ferraris, Jag XKE and XK180, couple Porsche 550 As, Shelby Cobra, Alpine Renault 1600S, some smaller-scale stuff and a couple motorcycles (HD VR-1000, Buell Lighting, Ducati 996 and 999)

ESPM400 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

I'll say nice call on the CLK, 300SL, Alpine and Cobra, but the F50 and 550 are rough calls... Got a 996 on order for this spring (first bike).

Sorry, but 550s and F-50s were crappy Ferrari's. Put an F-40 in there. Bloody go-cart.

formulabuild submitter 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Ok, so I'll admit I bought most of the models at various ToysRUs clearance sales and didn't spend over $10 for any of them. I was actively looking for the Alpine, I saw one in person in southern France and loved it.
The HD-VR1000 and Buell I ordered and paid good money for.
I've ridden Ducati's, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Honda but only owned HD, Yamaha and Buell. Take a riding school and track days, that Ducati will thank you.

ESPM400 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Riding school is definitely a go for me (don't want to end up a greasy spot). Unfortunately, I suffer from living in Canada, which has no tracks for track days... I'll soon be moving to Aus, which does have tracks, but crappy prices on PC components... I guess you can't have both, unless you live in the States.

EDIT: Sorry, my mistake. I've got a '98 916 coming this spring. Probably not a great starter bike, but what can I say it's in great shape and looks fantastic.

changerrs 1 point 42 months ago

how the hell can you see those! haha good eyes.

ESPM400 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Car guy. And yes, good eyes. It's the only good sense I've got.

Sure as hell don't have any common sense...

Aelon51 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Very nice computer...but I would almost rather have the office it came in...either way, very nice.

mateuszr 1 point 42 months ago

Cable Management --- +50 That computer cabinet thing with the foam (sound proofing) --- Priceless

formulabuild submitter 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Those are foam blocks made (mostly) from the shipping materials my Alienware's were packed with. Three rectangles cut to fit those openings, the primary reason being to keep the hot air from coming out the front of the desk.

Works pretty well.

Cabling turned out pretty well seeing how I only had zip ties and hadn't heard about sleeved cables until I had it together and started posting on Reddit.

My last build (3 yrs ago) had a partially modular power supply so I knew what not to get this time.

icebottle 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

+1 for the globe. great build and all, but that globe...

R9 1 point 42 months ago

NICE DUDE KEEP IT UP AND GIVE NOOBS HERE ADVICE

JurgaBurga 0 points 42 months ago

Holy cable management! That is some of the best cable management I've ever seen! Good build by the way.

I also have a stack of Alienware 18"s, a Lenovo W510 w/ i7 Extreme and a few other toys when I want to push above average. ;)
