Description

Uses: SolidWorks CAD, Photo Editing, Media Server, Gaming

Issues: Mild BIOS issue during OS install. BIOS reset corrected the issue.

ASUS AI suite provides excellent user interface for computer health status and performance tuning. The case is surprisingly quiet with multiple internal fans. Incredibly fast startup time of <20 seconds to login screen.

CAD renderings take significantly less time than my previous computers. The games look great too. I'll have to run a benchmark and get back..

Family member works for Microsoft. Too bad the discounts don't apply to hardware.

Very nice choice of parts!

I'm getting that exact same cooler with my next build. How's it treating you?

The computer has worked like a champ! I haven't spent much time tuning the GPU/CPU, but I haven't found a any shortcomings in the standard configuration. I took the typical route and installed the OS onto the SSD, disabled virtual memory, and disabled hibernate to minimize disk space. The WD Black HD is dedicated to program installation (bigger drive than needed) and the green drive is reserved for files. Most of my file backup is sent to an external HDD via the top loading SATA dock (love that feature).

To prepare the computer, I took the time to wire all the stationary devices in the house with Gigabit Ethernet. That really improved throughput for the computer and increased the shared wireless bandwidth for the remaining wireless devices (phones and tablets). It's been nearly 10 years since my last build so I wanted to make this one last.
