Build

Vive Hive - Beastly VR gaming cube

by strider_gts

Description

This was my first PC build in probably 12 years after switching exclusively to laptops about a decade ago. I needed a PC to use the upcoming HTC Vive though and this community helped me put together this parts list.

I was second-guessing my decision to build a PC instead of having one built for me while struggling for 2 hours to get the CPU cooler on, but once it all came together it felt incredible! I was extremely nervous to start it up for the first time but it ran extremely well and I haven't had any problems at all.

Everything runs cool and it's extremely quiet! I was really worried about having a "loud" machine so I probably went overkill on making sure that the fans all had low dbA ratings. I'm only running a very mild overclock on it right now as I'm very new to overclocking so I'm still trying to work out how to do that correctly.

Anyway, I really like the way it turned out and I'm glad that I got over my fear of building a PC again.

Thanks for looking and please feel free to ask any questions about it. =)

Solid looking build. Very nice work on pulling it all together, no doubt it will prove to be an awesome machine for VR.

Thank you!

I added photo #2 up there in the list of photos showing exactly why I built this PC =) It doesn't drop a single frame below 90 fps so I'm thrilled with this build!

I have to fully 1000% agree with Radox...this is an absolute awesome build. I look forward to building one similar after selling a few builds for some extra scratch.

Really like this. Similar story here; I built a bunch of machines between '95 and '04 but stopped a dozen years ago after switching to OS X for work. The Oculus Rift has pulled me back into planning my own rig again.

For the Vive. I couldn't care less about the monitor to tell you the truth. I don't even play games other than what I'll play on the Vive. Other than VR all I will use this computer for is Quickbooks and web surfing and the monitor is plenty good for that! =)
