Description

This is my 3rd build, but the first one that i picked all the parts and built solo. Its called Drunken Panda because the case reminds me of a panda and I was little drunk on Black Friday when I bought some of the components. I accidentally bought 2 processors the wrong mother board and that power supply. While the mobo and psu work fine. the mobo doesn't have the on-board USB 3.0 port.

I plan to replace that PSU with a full modular unit with white individually sleeved wires. Replace the rear and radiator fans with some blue led ones. add another SSD.

I'll update the pictures and part list with the optical drive and monitors when I get a chance. Just rushed to post this for a buddy to check out.

I know, I know, my drunk arse got seduced by the big number, shiny lights and the $120 off. I'm going to do an update in a few months with ax860 using white sleeved cables

I don't see what the problem is actually. I looked up a review on that PSU and it seems to be quite fine. He'll want to put it in another 780, though, to later reap the benefits of better efficiency (the closer you are to about 50% utilization on these the better...).

Otherwise, you probably aren't getting an 860W for much cheaper (it's actually more expensive right now), so why bother going down the wattage scale, considering the price that he got this thing for? It looks like it's got Japanese capacitors, and is likely built to last. Does everyone here just blindly trash everything that isn't Corsair?

If there's anything to be criticized, it's the CPU choice. That 6 core has been proven to not provide much gaming performance over a 4 core Haswell, and you've got so many RAM slots that you're not using in the motherboard. Had you scaled down the CPU to a more reasonably priced one, you could have likely gotten (a) better graphics card(s) and/or other components.

with that budget...780 ti just $200 more so take out the psu get a cheaper one and take out that rediculous case and get a cheaper one...just my opinion

I'll give you, and everyone else, the PSU. That was definitely my biggest mistake. But the case isn't so bad. I dig its modern art bs look. And it hides the power supply so I don't think about it as much.

Don't apologize for the case. Every time you sit at the desk you see the case before anything else. It's the ornaments on a tree or the ribbon and bow around the box. And if it was 50 times larger and had wheels it would be a chick magnet. Well, maybe not the last one but it still looks super fine anyway.

thinking of the PSU in my build.... why are you embarrassed by this?? or others hard on it??

overall, does it do the job?? does the lights change colors?

Sorry for the delayed response, It works very well. Its overkill for what I use it for, hence the grief and shame associated with it. You do not have control over the port lights but can turn off the fan light. And you will have to settle for a used/refurb as I believe they are no longer in production.

hey, its your build and I think it looks cool. I am working on my project as we speak. Buying the parts as I go along and learning.
